The Olympus DS-660 Digital Voice Recorder is a professional recording device loaded with features. It has 11 hours of DSS recording capacity, versatile file management tools for editing and appending recordings, a USB docking station for fast uploading and downloading of files, and DSS Player Pro software for increased freedom when recording and sharing your audio files.

DSS is an abbreviation for "Digital Speech Standard." It is a standard for digital voice recording set by Olympus and other manufacturers. The standard has been widely adopted and establishes ground rules for compression format of data, file formats, and the storage of media in digital speech recorders. Digital voice recorders manufactured by Olympus save voice recordings in DSS format (.dss file extension) and can be converted to waveform files (.wav) and other formats with the included software. Once converted, recordings can be included on web sites, CD-ROMs, or even as email attachments.

The DS-660 features 32 megabytes of built-in memory that provides up to 11 hours of recording time. The included USB docking station offers quick and easy downloading of files from recorder to computer (both PC and Mac). This recorder is designed with a convenient "New" button that enables you to quickly end one recording and begin another. And with five folders holding up to 199 files each, data management could not be easier. The voice activation feature automatically starts and stops recording as it senses volume to conserve memory and offer hands-free recording.

This recorder allows you to highlight recordings with index markings so you can return to specific sections with ease. Plus, for a speedy reminder of what you just recorded, the DS-660 can play files up to 50-percent faster, or 25-percent slower, for reviewing those hard-to-hear quick-talkers.
