Whether you’re enjoying a wedding or a fun weekend afternoon, the new Olympus FE-46 digital camera will consistently capture extraordinary, in-focus pictures of your family and friends. Inside its new premium crystal shell finish, the stylish FE-46 packs 12 megapixels, creative in-camera Magic Filters like Pop Art and Pin Hole that make your images stand out, and new AF Tracking that keeps kids, pets, tossed wedding bouquets and other fast-moving objects in focus.

Family Friendly and Full of Features

Don’t let its affordability fool you: the FE-46 is loaded with features and functions that make taking pictures as creative as it is fun. A 5x optical zoom and AF Tracking merely head up the list of exciting advances on this full-featured camera.

Always Stay Focused
The new AF Tracking technology locks your subject in focus, and continuously adjusts focus and brightness whether you or your subject are moving. This mode can remember the subject if it moves out of the frame. This enables you to keep fast-moving and unpredictable subjects like small children in focus for the perfect shot. There's even a specially designed AF Tracking "Pet Mode" for animal lovers.

Express Your Inner Artist with Magic Filters
In-camera Creative Features recently debuted on Olympus E-System DSLR (digital single lens reflex) cameras. Similar in-camera Magic Filters have been developed for the new FE cameras. The new Magic Filters enable the user to enhance and customize images as they're being captured. This translates into more fun and flexibility as customization is no longer limited to using expensive and time-consuming computer software.

The new Magic Filters include:
  • Pop Art: Enhance and saturate colors to create vivid, high-impact pictures that express the joyful, lighthearted feeling of the Pop Art style of the 1960s;
  • Pin Hole: Reduce the peripheral brightness of an image as though it were shot through a pin hole, connecting the viewer intimately with the subject at the center;
  • Wedding: This in-camera filter encloses the foreground of an image in gentle, pastel colors with a soft, elegant focus; similar to effects achieved in a studio.
Intelligent Auto Thinks For You
Tired of changing the settings on your camera every time you're shooting something different? The new cameras' Intelligent Auto Mode automatically identifies what you are shooting (Portrait, Landscape, Night + Portrait, Macro, Sports) and adjusts settings to capture the best quality results depending on the situation. First-time users will enjoy this quick and hassle-free feature, which does the thinking for them and produces incredible images like a pro.

In Sunshine or Shadows, Never Miss a Detail
Photographers know that shooting scenes with both highlights and shadows can be tricky because of the extreme contrast between dark and bright areas. When using Intelligent Auto on the FE-26, Shadow Adjustment Technology is automatically activated to address this challenge. It adjusts for extreme light variations and maintains visible detail in both the shadow and highlight areas of the scene.

Always Find a Face in the Crowd
Advanced Face Detection reduces the chance of blurred subjects in photography by distinguishing between people's faces and the background. It tracks up to 16 faces within the image area, even if people are moving, and automatically focuses and optimizes exposure for sharp, brilliant portrait pictures (ideal for large family or group photos).

Perfect Fix In-Camera Editing
The FE-46 offers Red-Eye Fix, Lighting Fix, Resizing and Cropping so photographers can edit images right in the camera without the need for any editing software.

Versatile Memory
The new FE cameras offer the flexibility to use either xD-Picture Card or microSD memory cards, which is just one more advantage of Olympus point-and-shoot cameras.

Easy Operation and Help Guides
The new FE cameras feature enhanced In-Camera Help Guides that make digital photography simple and fun for users of all ages and skill levels. In addition to the Help Guide that displays a brief description of camera settings and features on the LCD, all three cameras allow consumers to easily adjust ISO and white balance settings using the Program Auto mode. Additionally, Exposure Compensation enables users to preview and select various exposure effects on a live, multi-frame window on the LCD before snapping the shot. This smart feature allows users to see precisely what the image will look like when adjustments are made, ensuring they are capturing the exact image desired. Program Auto and Exposure Compensation are great modes that enable novice users to get results like the pros while learning about the effects of different photography techniques. Menus are available in 39 languages for convenient operation.

Olympus Master 2 Software
Use the included Olympus Master 2 software (Mac and PC) to easily download images from the camera or other external device, such as a USB drive, and automatically organize them into albums, edit and print. Update camera and lens firmware through the software and download additional menu languages. A direct link makes uploading your images and videos to YouTube easier than ever.

FE-46 Features
Superb image quality with a high-resolution, 12 megapixel CCD. No worries about losing clarity or detail when making enlargements or when cropping.

Powerful 5x optical zoom brings you super close to the scene or the action without having to move at all.

The LCD Backlight Boost Button combined with a 2.7", High-Resolution LCD vastly improves your ability to effectively compose and share photos even in direct sunlight.

xD-Picture Card compatibility along with an optional adapter for microSD memory cards lets the FE-46 enter new worlds of electronic storage.

Intelligent Auto + Shadow Adjustment Technology identifies the scene and adjusts the settings for picture perfect results every time.

Advanced Face Detection enables you to shoot group portraits with as many as 16 people in the shot, for the sharpest people pictures you can get

With AF Tracking, the camera automatically tracks moving subjects and adjusts the focus and brightness settings to capture those subjects in sharp detail.

The Digital Image Stabilization feature uses higher ISO and faster shutter speeds to capture sharp, blur-free images, even when you’re chasing moving targets.
Shoot VGA movies with sound and share them with all your friends, family and coworkers. Or better yet, share your movies on YouTube, using the included Olympus Master 2 Software

Magic Filters give you the flexibility and creativity to be flexible and creative in your photo efforts by applying filter effects such as Pop Art, Pinhole or Wedding.

There are 20 shooting modes built right in, so that you can photograph just about any kind of scene you’d like—everything from sports photography to macro photography and many other photo specialties in between.

Perfect Fix makes perfect pictures possible by activating two different editing features, post shot, to correct red-eye, and lighting – no software necessary.

An ISO up to 1600 delivers razor-sharp, crystal-clear exposure, regardless of subject movement or low-light conditions.

And if you feel the need for a little extra advice, the camera’s on-board Help Guides will briefly describe the camera’s features and settings at the touch of a button.

I bought this camera for my 17 year-old son who is quite tech savvy (compared to myself). I've read the previous reviews about "grainy" pics, but once you figure out how the make adjustments the pictures come out just fine. It takes good pictures, has a decent enough zoom lense, and allows him to edit photos on the camera. It has a lot of other options to that he seems to be quite happy about. He carries it to school daily and is always taking pictures of friends and such and they upload directly to his computer via a USB cable. He doesn't use the camera box since he carries the camera around like his cell phone, and he gave the crayons to his 3 year-old sister. Two gifts in one! LOL. The camera is very easy to use and I'd recommend it for someone just starting out using ditigal cameras, or someone in HS or junior high who takes daily random shots of a bunch of other teens/friends.

Overall I like the camera and the quality of the photos. The camera is easy to operate. The buttons are clear and simple. The only problem I have is when trying to take pictures of something that moves. The slow response time from the time you press the button until the shutter closes is so slow that I cannot take pictures of the baby, for example. Children move so quickly that I can never capture the shot I want: the baby has already moved, or his eyes are closed, or the smile is gone - it just loses the spontaneity.

This is a lot of camera for your money.
I was pleasantly surprised at the features and photo quality for this price.

Ordered the black; got the aqua blue - not a big deal to me as I am not taking photos of the camera. It's cute, actually. Couldn't find the xd adapter card at first, -argh!-, but it (little orange thing) turned up in the larger box with the case (black) and crayons, whew! Put in a 4G micro card; after changing the compression to "fine," which I always use, it reported I had room for 500 pictures - half the number you can fit at "normal" compression. Use "fine" for everything. You can definitely see the difference in the quality of your photos.

I am still exploring all the features of this camera. The scene modes are a nice timesaver, and the magic filters - did not expect that! - are quite fun. The movies with sound do NOT lose audio when you zoom, despite reports to the contrary, but naturally you can hear a click. It is easy to operate, and the photos are vibrant and crisp and full of detail. Now, you would not use this to photograph a wedding, but for everyday, walkaround, wow, look at that! use it is pretty hard to beat.

Yes, it is a bit "plasticy," but not flimsy - and plastic also makes it very light. Get batteries in a drugstore in a pinch. Big, bright, clear LCD monitor. The pictures are perfectly focused if you take the picture correctly - wait for the green focus box to appear. (I have yet to see a blurry one .. I RTFM.) And unlike your average fancycam, it arrives with a sturdy if simple padded case, so you just throw it in your bag and go. No worries. No $25 for a case either. And my nieces and nephews will all love the coloring stuff.
Great purchase. Very happy. Get yourself one.

Great little camera for the price. Takes great pictures. One pro is the use of regular AA batteries - no need to recharge a special battery. One con - does not seem to play back videos on the camera with sound. You must go through computer or TV to hear audio. But overall, a good starter camera for teens.

The camera is ok. The actual pictures don't turn out to good for it being a 11 megapixel. I bought it for the crayola feature but wish i wouldve gotten a kodak camera instead. Good for teens and young adults. Not good for adults wanting to caputure good pictures of kids and sports!!

My daughter loves this camera. She loves the fact that she can print the picture and then color it herself. She is always using it. I am not a fan of the box, I would have preferred something a little more sturdier due to the fact that it was supposed to be a keepsake box.

good camera especially for the price makes a good gift and is great for taking pictures of the family and such but its not a camera for more advanced users. but if you need a camera to take simple picture and even short video of friends and family this will do the job nicely.
