Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The Olympus ES-10 parallel film scanner allows you to transform 35mm film negatives or slides into remarkably sharp digital images with amazingly true-to-life colors. For business, creative projects, or family fun, you can use the imaging software that comes standard with the ES-10 to lay out catalogs, send e-mail, create a business presentation, or design a Web site. Organize your photos and prepare them for publishing, and then use digitized film for desktop publishing or posting on the Internet.

While scanning all common 35mm films--color or black-and-white, negatives or positives, mounted or strip negatives--the images appear directly on your computer screen. Because it scans film directly, the Olympus ES-10 produces high-resolution (2,400 x 1,600 dpi, 24-bit color), 3.8-megapixel images without the loss of detail that often results from conventional scanning of prints or photographs. Olympus scanning technology keeps the colors lush and retains the subtle gradations normally found in original film. You can easily scan, crop, retouch, and manipulate photographs, and then print, publish, or store your images.

The ES-10 connects to your computer through a shared port with your printer. Scanning times range from a 10-second preview to about three minutes for the highest resolution (2,400 x 1,600 pixels). The Olympus ES-10 parallel scanner is compatible with Windows 95 and 98 operating systems. Also included with the scanner are an AC adapter, dust cover, Centronics 26-pin connector, and Olympus ES-10 Twain driver and browser plug-in. The software package includes Olympus Pictra Album, Adobe PhotoDeluxe, and InMedia Slides and Sound.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Film Scanner, January 29, 2000
This review is from: Olympus ES-10 Parallel Film Scanner (Office Product)
This is probably the cheapest usable film scanner in the market today (cheaper ones do NOT work, get a flatbed...). The scans are great and it's very easy to use. The software is also very robust (unlike Microtek's buggy ones) and has not crashed on me so far. Being a webdesigner for fashion models I use this machine very often and have found it very reliable.

The complaints for this machine would be a lack of software for Windows NT! The software is only 95/98 compatible. How silly. And the film type templates are definitely not comprehensive enough. You can choose only brands, but there are difference in color balance and contrast, say, in just Fuji! It can take a while to play with that color balance. But otherwise, this is a superb product, love it!

1.0 out of 5 stars OLYMPUS LETS ITS CLIENTS DOWN, December 30, 2001
This review is from: Olympus ES-10 Parallel Film Scanner (Office Product)
Olympus has decided to discontinue the manufacture of the ES-10 scanner. So, it did not develop a driver for Windows XP. Thousands of ES-10 owners will have to throw their scanner in the garbage.
Without a driver for Windows XP, the scanner is useless. Olympus supports its customers? Yeah, sure.
