The Wig Jig is a great tool for making somewhat complex twists and shapes with wire, particularly if you want your pieces to be perfectly shaped and uniform. You do have to consider that you need to use a fairly flexible gauge wire, so that may limit your choices...just something to keep in mind.

For making simpler shapes I have to admit that I found that I much prefer to manipulate the wire by hand with simple tools. It allows me to use less wire than with the Wig Jig, simply becuase I don't need the excess to hold on to and wind around the pegs.

I also found that I prefer a more "natural" look that comes from handworking the wire, but that is just a matter of personal taste. I made some fun pieces that can be used for crafting and decoration but I would not use it for my jewelry. I like to hammer my jewelry work and all of the crossed wire made that impossible without damaging the piece.

Again, if you would like to make more complicated shapes in a nice uniform manner, this is a great, fairly simple tool. Do you need it? Not unless you want to do more decorative or large shapes, otherwise try your hand at working your wire with jeweler's hand tools.

Besides using this for wire wraping jewerly, I recently used it to make a cookie cutter for Art Clay Silver, out of bezel wire. How is that for versatile? However, it did work very nicely too for the wire wrap silver ring I made with it also. It small enough to use anywhere. The only minor complaints I have is that 1.It's awful easy to lose the pegs, since they roll very easily, so it would be nice if they inlcluded more of them, and 2. It would be nice it had some lines painted on it, since it is clear, so it's hard to see the pattern you are creating unless you put it on white paper, and even then, the lines would make lining the pegs up a little easier.

This is a great little jig for those that want a jig for smaller projects. I only use mine for smaller turns right now so this size was just what I needed. The pegs stay in well and I didn't have any problems with the wire slipping off but then I pushed the wire down as I went.
