Amazing color, excellent sharpness.
Dr Dave
It matches the E-PL series cameras very well in size and weight and with the 14-42 makes a perfect travel companion, especially for hiking.

I love the photos that I get from shooting with this lens, and I don't know a lot about photography and dslrs.

Let me first say that I own an Olympus system with two E-3, and several HG lenses. I also have the excellent 14-54 and 50-200 SWD lenses. I bought the E-PL1 with the two lens kit (14-42 and 40-150) to supplement my "big" system to take along on hikes. The complete kit with both lenses weigh about as much as just the E-3 body and the image quality is about on par.

This 40-150 lens is a jewel. It is very light and very sharp if used at f5.6. It compares extremely well with its big brother (50-200), except in contrast which I can correct with software. It matches the E-PL series cameras very well in size and weight and with the 14-42 makes a perfect travel companion, especially for hiking.

This lens is a great addition to the kit 12-42mm for my E-PL1 ... in fact, it's far superior. At 40mm, it opens to f3.5 (vs 5.6 for the kit lens), and focusses much faster, even when zoomed out to 150mm. I used it almost exclusively doing difficult available light shooting for a kid's musical production .. and the images were uniformly sharper than those I took with the kit lens. I'm really happy with this purchase.

Kay, let me start off by saying, this is my second lens, first was the 17mm f2.8 that came with my E-P2 camera. I needed a Zoom, got this locally for $180 brand new cause the box was slightly damaged. Lens was still in pristine shape.

The lens itself is EXTREMELY light, weights the same almost as my pancake. when zoomed out though gets very long. At 150mm its not the camera that's a problem, just my ability to hold it steady without a tripod. The lens feels well made when zooming and focusing the lens, but at times you will get by the, it feels plastic cheap. Let me assure you though, that nothing is plastic cheap about it, the zoom is firm and well made, not loose at all. the fit onto the camera is perfect, and picture quality is superb! for a budget lens this is a GREAT starter zoom lens to start off with. I would buy it again for this price!

This is a great long zoom lens for the PEN series of cameras. It has a 35mm equivalent range of 80mm-300mm

Pros:
Great Range
Sharp Images(like most zoom lenses, it has it sweet spots)
Light weight
A great value at the sub $300 price

Cons:
Zoom ring not as fluid as some zoom lenses I have used
Not great for indoor / low light (does not claim to be)

I use this lens 90% of the time and believe it to be a great all around zoom lens.

This lens is light and reliable, it auto focuses SO FAST and SILENT it blew my mind. Compared to the kit 14-42mm Zuiko with Olympus PEN, this thing is a godsend in both speed and "silence", it focuses way faster than 14-42 and you barely hear anything at all.

The quality is very good and I think it'll stay on my camera way more often than the 14-42mm, (when I need wider angles I suppose I'll have no choice, not that 14-42mm is a bad lens or anything.

I was afraid of a larger, bulkier lens but this one is just perfect.

Shooting at the 150mm end is a bit difficult due to the narrow angle and REQUIRES a tripod, but for the msot part the other zooms are perfectly capable of capturing everything I need.

Pros:
Very sharp
Focuses fast
Extremely small and lightweight - I knew it and still was surprised by the size of this lens
Looks good on my E-PL2
Built well

Cons:
Nothing really. Although I wish the lens had a larger aperture.

Conclusion:
Amazing lens and great bargain.

great lens for short mid range to near longer range shooting. beautiful bokeh at the long end of the focal length (i actually use it for pretty decent macro shots). Immune to lens creep. Pairing this lens with the panny 20mm prime is the perfect kit.

It will be a year since I bought my Olympus e-pl1 in a month and I just recently bought this lens. I bought the pancake lens first, but I'm mad at myself for not getting this one instead. The picture quality with this lens is amazing and the close ups look awesome. Really easy to use and feels really sturdy, even though it's plastic. I bought a refurbished one, which came in new condition and no signs of wear whatsoever. I recommend shopping around or taking the risk on a refurb. It's worth it!
