Not so handy....,
By Kemo Sabe "Kemo Sabe" (Bellaire, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: RS-29 REM CNTRL (Electronics)
This thing device does very little in terms of improving the recording process.
It does allow you to turn the recorder on and off, but it does not "pause" the recording when it does so, it ends the file! So, when you go back to recording, it starts a new file. This might be fine if you think in terms of "chapters," as you record, but if you want to stop and start in the same file, this will sabotage your efforts by turning one long conversation or interview into fifty little ones.... Beyond that, it's is made of cheap thin plastic and fractures easily. It will probably still work, but it's only a matter of time after it breaks before it falls apart. My idea of a good tool is not one that is wrapped in Scotch tape and rubber bands. Ergonomically, it's too big and ugly (clumsy for you, a distraction to others) - and, with it clipped on (it has a lapel clip on the backside) you can't, as the operator, see if it is record mode or not. Last, as you use it, and it does its "on and off" thing instead of "record and pause" thing, there is a noticeable lag time between it ending a file and starting a new one. So, you may find your many sound files "clipped" way more than you want. All in all, not worth the money or the time it takes to get used to it. The included mics work as good or better on their own in the DS series, and, better still, the DS stereo mics work fine with a stereo extension cord you can buy at Radio Shack. If you use a simple extension cable, you can work the pause, etc. from the unit and see what's happening on the LCD. For everything I've done so far, that's been a better solution to getting things done than trying to use the RS29.

Remote control or tie-clip mike? Both!,

Great addition for my Olympus DS-50. I didn't buy it for the remote control capability, but for the tie-clip stereo microphone feature. Great for taping while driving. Perfect sound. Absolutely love it.

Very good, a little bulky,
This review is from: RS-29 REM CNTRL (Electronics)
It works well. It creates a separate file each time you activate the recorder... which is EXACTLY what I wanted. It takes about 1 second for it to start recording when you turn it on, but that's easy enough to plan for. The microphone works well and does a good job of recording conversation. The only downside is the mic/switch is a little bulkier than I would like. I've been using it for about 1 year now and it still works great.
