This camera takes horribly grainy, terribly out of focus photos. About 50 percent are ruined completely. The other 50 percent are about as good as my Droid Razr takes. I misspoke: The Razr takes BETTER video. When videotaping, the camera "hunts" in and out focus.

There may be the slightest-inkling of hope: I just now downloaded the Olympus firmware update (1.1)and I am going to give this thing one more chance. The Olympus site was wonderful and the downloaded new software went onto the camera without a hitch. It already seems to turn on faster and less lag in the shutter button. But if the photos next weekend are as bad as ever, this thing is going onto Craigslist for a quick sell.

UPDATE: I properly downloaded the firmware from Olympus's website, full of hope that it would fix the focusing problem and the horribly grainy photo problem.

It didn't. The camera is for sale on Craigslist at 1/3 the price of what I paid for it. Took it out Kayaking this last weekend and 25 percent of the photos were completely out of focus. Lest someone claims that it was user error, we had two older olympus waterproof cameras using them under the same conditions and neither one turned out a single out of focus shot. That's it: These things ruin on average 25 percent of all shots.....there will be a string of between 5 and 20 shots in a row, all out of focus. Out of 200 shots taken, 40 were in strings of out of focus shots. One right after another.

I'm done.

A great camera if you an active person or just clumsy. This camera is almost indestructible, I've banged it up so many times taken it to the beach and water parks. However, I do find that it doesn't take the pictures quick enough or at a quality I would like as a photographer, but it was my best option seeing I constantly tend to destroy my point-and-shoots going the places I go and keeping it in my handbag. It is also a bit heavy but worth having as an active person.

Beware of this camera!! I had this camera for a year and it will no longer function. I never took it in water and to be honest barely used it. this camera stopped working right after the warranty expired (go figure). even when I did use this camera and it did "work" the pictures were poor and mostly out of focus and/or too bright/too dark. not to mention that when you want to take a picture it takes way too long to turn on and take the picture. I contacted olympus and they wanted to charge me $160. to buy a refurbished one..... I told them to E-waste it.... his camera was a significant waste of money and would not suggest it to anyone. if you really want a nice water proof camera that takes good pictures.. go with the canon Powershot D-10, heres the link: Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-Inch LCD

If you want a "tough" camera, this certainly should be checked out carefully. This is our second one because the first one 4 years old, died without good cause. So don't expect these cameras to be truly "tough." They are dust and water resistant, but not really rugged and certainly not underwater cameras. They are great for the beach, skiing, hiking, etc. where a regular camera would have to be treated with great care. The menu is not as intuitive as it could be because it has too many features we will never use. There was no external battery charger included. To charge the battery you open the compartment, plug in the charger cord, and leave it for a couple hours, exposing the inside of the camera to the elements. But, the camera serves its purpose as a general use point-and-shoot digital camera.

Pretty new camera. The program mode ("P") on the camera seems to really mean "P"urposely don't focus properly--virtually no picture comes out in-focus. I've tried all the focus modes and none of them seems to make any difference. We've taken to shooting in "iAUTO" just so they're in-focus. Otherwise, it works well. Likes: the underwater capability. Not ready to recommend this product, just because of the focus issues. Contacted Olympus Tech Support, but not really expecting a resolution as there aren't any software updates available for it.

It does what it's advertised to do. It's doesn't take amazing pictures unless you really play around with the settings. If you let the battery get too low it will start to misbehave and leave your pictures out of focus. But for the most part, it is super reliable and does a great job. Haven't had any waterproof issues. You just need to be sure to take care of it like the instructions say.

This camera has proven itself time and time again. When I first got it I gave it to my kids who put it through the ringer and it still works good. I would suggest to anybody, who needs a durable camera with good picture quality, to buy this camera.

I purchased this camera just over a year ago. The photo quality was HORRIBLE. Even with changing the shutter speed the quality didn't improve.

To add insult to injury, I took this camera on a once in a lifetime 21-day trip on the Grand Canyon and it broke on day two. The seals blew out and I got almost ZERO photos.

If you are a skier, then forget being able to take this in the cold...you will likely damage your camera if temperatures at perfect skiing conditions of 15 degrees.

Olympus Customer Support is HORRIBLE. Do NOT buy this camera.

Go Cannon -- the photo quality is higher, the camera is more reliable. The size & weight are worse, but that is a small price to pay to be able to capture better memories.
