Olympus Stylus 7040 Highlights
7x Wide-Angle Zoom (28-196mm equivalent)
A big zoom that fits right in your pocket. The 7x zoom lets you get incredibly close to your subject while the 28mm wide-angle lens lets you zoom back out for panoramas and group shots.
HD Movie 720p
A simple, one-touch button allows you to record movies with amazing clarity in high-definition, right from your camera.
Dual Image Stabilization
The 2-in-1 anti-blur solution. Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization, which keeps your shot steady by compensating for camera shake, combines with Digital Image Stabilization to capture crisp, clear images in any situation.
Automatically tracks unpredictable, fast-moving subjects like kids and pets. Continuously adjusts the focus and brightness so you can easily capture a great shot of your subject in motion.
Creative Art Filters
Transform your pictures into works of art with filters that are built right into your camera--no additional software or computer time required. Effects include Pop Art, Pinhole, Fisheye, and Drawing.

The camera also has HD video recording, and it is great. I have been needing to make some videos for my small business, and this will work nicely. It will also be great to catch family events on, including when my children meet their new sibling within the next few days.
the only thing I would make special note of is that the camera does not have as many manual settings as I am used to. no manual focus, in particulr. but, since it does so good a job of the auto focus, I haven not found that to be an issue.
overall, I highly reccomend this camera to anyone looking for a new personal or easy to use small business camera.
With the default settings (simply turning the camera on), it works well with one issue. It takes the camera 2-3 seconds to focus which makes it difficult to take spontaneous photos and causes posed subjects to become impatient while waiting for the photographer to snap the picture. This is somewhat alleviated by pressing the shutter button partially (which activates the auto-focus feature) but this isn't as easy as you might expect. I've attempted to explain/demonstrate/teach three users but they were unable to grasp the concept. So, this may be an issue for others.
Finally, the main reason I'm taking the time to write this review is the fragility of this camera. As stated above, our old camera stopped working after dropping it. In that case, it was understandable as the camera dropped ~5 feet and landed on a hard floor. However, the new camera was bumped by my dog's tail from a height of 2 feet or less and fell off the coffee table onto the rug below. The camera appeared fine at first glance and it wasn't until last week that we noticed that the display screen had a spider-web crack which caused half of it to become non-viewable. We attempted to use the camera anyway (Christmas was here) but it eventually spread through the rest of the screen.Read more ›
