This is my first digital recorder which I purchased for recording class lectures. This device is very simple to use and includes the software and connectors required to transfer the recordings onto your computer. My only gripe about this product is that it only has 4 hours of recording time on the low quality setting. Recording quality is satisfactory however I wouldn't recommend it for lecture recordings if the professor is not wearing a microphone unless you sit in the front of the class. Overall I am satisfied with this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome quality, but less than one and a half hours in HQ, February 9, 2005

This review is from: Olympus VN-240 PC Digital PC Link Voice Recorder (Office Product)
I bought this recorder a couple of months ago, hoping to record some classes and lectures that are too good to hear just once. It's amazing that the classes sound even better on my PC than when I'm there! I absolutely loved it!
I usually place my recorder 5 to 10 feet from the professor, and the sound is perfect even when he walks around and goes further than that. It does not catch much noise from my colleagues, chatting in class but, surprisingly, records efficiently every question or comment!
I could not be more pleased with the quality of the sound, but now that I've used and loved it so much, I wish I had spent twice the money and gotten the Olympus recorder with twice the memory (DM-10)!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding product, easy to setup and use, November 12, 2004
This review is from: Olympus VN-240 PC Digital PC Link Voice Recorder (Office Product)
My first digital voice recorder, and I couldn't be happier so far. Within minutes, I was recordering and saving those recordings to my laptop. The software installed without any problems, and the USB download, while not exceptionally fast, is very convenient. I am satisfied with the voice quality. My first meeting using this recorder, there was major construction going on right outside the office. That noise had very little effect on the recording. I agree with wanting longer recording time, but for the price, you can't beat this recorder.

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY NICE VOICE RECORDER, February 23, 2005
This review is from: Olympus VN-240 PC Digital PC Link Voice Recorder (Office Product)
We just received this Olympus Digital PC Voice Recorder (VN-240) in the mail yesterday, but so far we just love it!!! It has very nice features for such a great price -- (1) very compact & lightweight, (2) EXCELLENT sound quality (headphones included), (3) records each recording into separate files with a date/time stamp, (4) allows you to schedule future reminders, and (5) has the PC link to save all of your treasured (baby/kids) and/or important (school/business) recordings. Bottom line, this is a TERRIFIC product @ a TERRIFIC price!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars It does the Job well and easy, December 21, 2005

I use this product at the office for interviews, meetings and for taking notes, for me it is better than a tape recorder because it gives you the option to save recordings in a PC. It is easy to use and so is the software that comes with it. Consulting the manual is only required for the special options that it has. The best use you can give this unit is to record conversations. Other user that need stereo sound will need to searh for something else. I got this product new on a local retailer for 45 USD back in 2004. I would advice to buy the VN-960 PC because it has 4 times the record time for only 60 USD. The only Cons. i find in this product are: Uses AAA batteries, sometimes Rechargable Batteries dont work and file transfer to PC is too slow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice device for a nice price!, June 10, 2006
This review is from: Olympus VN-240 PC Digital PC Link Voice Recorder (Office Product)
This is my first digital voice recorder. I use it for recording speeches and conferences. Sometimes I use it in my own office's meetings to record my mate's opinions. The software is very useful. You may change the format of your recordings using Windows Media or any similar application. My DVR is refurbished, and even so it does the job and saves my day in the sense of keeping sound records. I recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Recording Star, August 2, 2005

This unit worked without complicated instructions. The buttons are labeled well, and spaced so that you do not hit two at once.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well..., June 7, 2007
This review is from: Olympus VN-240 PC Digital PC Link Voice Recorder (Office Product)
I ordered this because of a 20th Century art history class I was taking and after the first test realised I might want to record what is being said. It did exactly what I needed it to do but I had to remember to download everything from it every night or else I wouldn't have enough room for the next days classes. But other then that I have no complaints.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't get dooped, April 6, 2005
This review is from: Olympus VN-240 PC Digital PC Link Voice Recorder (Office Product)
If using Macs don't be doooped! First off the bad. I got dooped by some sales clerk at a local electronics store who told me this device was both Windows and Macintosh compatible. NOT TRUE! I felt deceived at first until I went to Olympus' website and pulled up the product info. Under software downloads it does in fact list a Mac OSX app to use with this device. Must be a webbo (typo) because after 3 days of fiddling with this gremlin I happened upon the specs sheet, which clearly shows it is not compatible with Macs. After 4 emails and 2 weeks I've rec'd no reply from the Olympus Tech support. Tech support is crucial - imagine owning a house and never being able to get a hold of a plumber, roofer, or electrician. That's what bad tech support is like. Anyway that knocked my star rating down 3 points to a 2. Aside from all the bad this a a cool and user friendly device and I've just been plugging the audio out (earphone) into my USB audio recorder and getting it to my Mac that way. It's a real pain in my toe but for the price it works. Still experimenting with the quality but set on low quality and placing the recorder on the table in front of me at a coffee house does not give a very good recording. Anyway this is a keeper for the price and doesn't get tossed in the kibble.
