A good value, with a caveat,

This review is from: Olympus VN2100 Digital Voice Recorder (Office Product)
I'm a journalist and I record a lot of interviews. I rely on the Index button to note important quotes and zip ahead to them later when I'm transcribing. This Olympus only allows 10 index marks per session. So if someone says something interesting for an 11th time, you can't note it digitally; doing so would require hitting the Stop button and starting a new recording session. That's a pain. As for ease of use, the recorder sports a logically laid-out interface. It's also lightweight; I hardly notice it in my jacket pocket. However, I'll look for a new recorder with better indexing capabilities.

Beware, don't make my mistake,

This product does exactly what it says it does. I realize now that what I wanted was the VN2100PC which has the USB port on the side. I wanted this device to record lectures and transfer them onto my computer but when I got the recorder and opened it I realized that there was no way to make the transfer. This is good quality and easy to use, and I suppose it would be handy for recording things that you don't mind erasing. I wrongly assumed that most recorders are made so that recordings can be stored elsewhere (like old cassette recorders) but I was wrong. If you want to transfer recordings, you will want the VN2100PC which costs about $15 more. Once again, the mistake was my own but I wrote this so that other costumers don't get stuck with what has become a paper weight to me.

Great Little Product,

For the price you can't beat this thing. The only thing that I have a problem with is it not having a backlit display. But that was not unexpected. The mic on this is pretty sensitive. I recommend for a product under $35.
