5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent mix of deep house with a modern electro tech edge!
This mix compilation is SO good! 50% of it is the deep house-y goodness I would expect from OM Records and the other 50% is a fresh, new, modern sound of deep tech-y robot funk! It's deep yet edgy, smooth yet funky, chilled yet rockin' ... it's hard to explain as I haven't really heard a compilation like this before. I own a lot of house, deep house, techno, tech-house...

3.0 out of 5 stars Better choices from OM are available
If you are looking for funky or smooth deep house, keep looking because this is not it. As stated by other reviewers, Winter Sessions is much more techno than previous OM records. To me, it lacked cohesiveness and although It starts off strong but run out of steam. Overall, it is enjoyable effort but certainly not great.

It's deep yet edgy, smooth yet funky, chilled yet rockin' ... it's hard to explain as I haven't really heard a compilation like this before. I own a lot of house, deep house, techno, tech-house and progressive house music and this is one of the freshest house mixes that I have heard in a few years.

Awesome track selection, great beats, beautiful textures chilled in the funky winter air. If you are a true house music lover and want to hear a possible new direction for the genre, pick up this 2 disc mix!

I believe this is actually OM's second foray into the tech side of house, a big change from the funky and soulful house they are usually known for. The first was a mix called Electrolush, and it seemed forced how they tried to blend techno, tech house, electro and funky house into the same mix, and it didn't work at all. The discs were 3 tracks of one genre, 3 tracks of the next, and so on and so forth, to where it seemed like they just lined up the different tracks by genre, with no regard to the flow of the overall mix. Also, I didn't appreciate funky house in the same mix as techno; it just doesn't work.

This, their second real foray out of their usual house groove, has both discs starting off with some standard house, and after 3 of 4 tracks of each mix, we quickly get some heavy doses of tech house the rest of the way. It's good track selections, good mixing, and great flowing sounds from both Justin Martin on disc 1 and Johnny Fiaso on disc 2. Fiasco does return to some house tracks near the end of his mix, so disc 1 has more of the tech tracks. They both sound great and after being burned by some previous OM releases in the past, I've finally found what I consider the best they've ever released, and a highly recommended 2 disc set.

5.0 out of 5 stars loved the justin martin mix, July 7, 2008

this review is for the justin martin cd, i did not like the johhny fiasco cd at all, which was deep house. i am from sf and have been listening to a lot of deep house by om records since a lot of my friends are into it and drag me to dna lounge or mighty for the om djs. i am not a fan of deep house at all. i love techno, been enjoying more minimal techno and orlando breaks lately and i must say i really liked this justin martin mix. i am not sure exactly how to classify it but I would say it starts a bit more like house more like electro house and then continues with more definite minimal techno tracks. the tracks flow nicely... and especially after listening to this cd couple of times, you get addicted to some of the tracks (stoop it, who is afraid of detroit).. not neccesarily great for dancing all night but more for chilling at home or in the car. another recommendations from minimal techno genre is lee burridge balance 012(or 013??)..the best cd i owned in years :)
