4.0 out of 5 stars Handy for the experienced beginner
I love that this book has practices from 5-90 minutes but the instructions and illustrations may be too succinct for some. For instance, the locust pose has virtually no instructions and the stick figure just barely illustrates the pose. The poses generally don't mention modifications beyond the advice to bend the knees in forward bending if you're inflexible. For...

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Practice Sessions, Poor Visuals
I agree with most everyone here, this book is great! It has several daily yoga sessions you can practice, according to time and what you need for that day. The notations and instructions on each pose is direct and clear. I felt the only down side of the book was the illustrations. 4.0 out of 5 stars Handy for the experienced beginner, May 1, 2005
This review is from: Om Yoga Today: A Yoga Practice for 5, 15, 30, 60, and 90 Minutes (Hardcover)
For those with some experience the pared down written instructions and stick figures may be sufficient cues for practicing.

The preface to each practice is wise and light-hearted, as is the overall tone of the book, which lies nicely flat for ease of use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful, but needs supplementation, April 2, 2005
This review is from: Om Yoga Today: A Yoga Practice for 5, 15, 30, 60, and 90 Minutes (Hardcover)
I bought this as a beginning yoga practitioner and have used it extensively, particularly for the 15 and 30-minute sessions. I haven't tried the longer sessions yet for one reason: I lose the flow of the poses when I have to flip back and forth between the portion that shows all poses and the portion that shows each pose in more detail. Do I inhale or exhale here? It doesn't say in the section showing many poses, so I have to stop, flip back to the details, then start again. Sounds minor and it is, but it (and occasionally confusing drawings, as with "Threading the Needle") are drawbacks to what is otherwise a very useful book. I particularly like the spiral binding so the book lies open for easy reference during practices.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE OM Yoga!, December 19, 2006

I have had many yoga books and CDs over the past 7 years, and the OM series is the best. Easy to use and to understand, and the colorful drawings are a nice break from the boring black and white photos of skinny people in leotards!

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful beginners guide to OM Yoga, February 9, 2005
This review is from: Om Yoga Today: A Yoga Practice for 5, 15, 30, 60, and 90 Minutes (Hardcover)
I was interested in learning yoga, so I went to the bookstore and looked through the yoga section. This book stood out. Once I looked inside, I knew it was the right book to start with.

Cyndi Lee has organized this book into sections: 5 minute yoga session, 15 minute session, 30, 60 and 90 minute sessions, so that you can fit yoga into your schedual.

The routines are clearly laid out using sute stick figure drawings that are easy to follow, then each position is described by what you should be feeling, and how to use each position. This makes this book easy to follow for beginners like me.

Not only did just one session make me feel relaxed and healthy, but I was in touch with my body. I highly reccomend this book to anyone even remotely interested in starting yoga, as it makes it easy, and you teach yourself.

Thanks to Cyndi for making such a wonderful book that has brought the wonderful rewards of yoga into my life.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Practice Sessions, Poor Visuals, March 27, 2008
I agree with most everyone here, this book is great! It has several daily yoga sessions you can practice, according to time and what you need for that day. The notations and instructions on each pose is direct and clear. I felt the only down side of the book was the illustrations. They have stick figure people demonstrating the poses, and it does not clearly illustrate the detail of the human body. I felt the visual demonstrations were as equally important as the detail of the written instruction, especially for me as a beginner. I wish I could have given it a higher rating because the rest of the content was great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Om Yoga, October 6, 2007
I love this book! The only thing that could have been better is if it came with a cd with music and someone walking you through the moves. A few of the poses are a little difficult to figure out based on the picture. It's still a wonderful book. I love that the exercises are broken down into such manageable workouts!

4.0 out of 5 stars i love yoga, April 11, 2007
It's a great book for different yoga sequences. It gives directions for each sequence with figures, but it does not talk anything about a particular pose- the benefits or the contraindications. Not ideal for total beginners, but good if you already know something about yoga.

So far I've only done the 5 and 15 minute routines. I like it a lot though, there are nice little stick figures to follow and then more detailed directions and drawings a few pages after if you don't know exactly what to do. So far I am very happy with this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Have you found yoga books to be overwhelming?, April 20, 2007

This review is from: Om Yoga Today: A Yoga Practice for 5, 15, 30, 60, and 90 Minutes (Hardcover)
Then this book may be for you. I've tried book after book about yoga. After all, yoga sounds so great. But I've never been able to successfully get through even one routine. Either the routines are WAY too long for me (consider the book of "beginner's yoga" I bought that began with an hour long routine) or the descriptions of the poses are so detailed and intricate that I cannot hold the information in my head. No one can throw either of those accusations at this book! I mastered the 5 minute routine, and I've moved on to the 15 minute routine. For once in my life, I feel some measure of success with yoga. Yes, the poses are not described in minute detail, but for those of us who tend to get bogged down in minutiae, that is most likely an advantage. I'm figuring that an attempt at the pose is a good beginning. If I manage to master this entire book, perhaps I'll look for a book with all the detail to fix the way I'm doing the poses. Until then, some exercise is better than no exercise!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good, November 15, 2007

Kat "Kat" (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This book is great when you need to get a practice into your day. May not be for beginners. I am very familliar with yoga positions, so the stick figures are perfect, can be mostly fit on one page so you dont have to flip.

If you're like me, a city girl, practice is often thrown throughout the day when I can - mornings, evenings - classes are a rarity for me.
So no matter how much time you've got, this book can give you something to do.
