Book Description

February 1, 2005
After skyrocketing to fame with their hit single "Uh Huh," B2K seemed to have it all. But barely two years later the four friends succumbed to a rift so deep that three of them stopped showing up for sold-out shows. Lead singer Omari Grandberry was left with the intimidating prospect of facing their fans alone.

In this intimate memoir, Omarion chronicles his Los Angeles childhood, how B2K came together, the ups and downs of instant brotherhood, the struggles of making it in entertainment, what really happened in the final days of B2K, and what's next for him -- including starring in the Fat Albert movie, and more. Here is the story of a boy with the gift of song and dance raised in some of L.A.'s toughest neighborhoods, and how he ditched his "underage thug" complex to pursue his dream. Along the way, Omarion shares a more personal side, including his deep respect for the women who raised him and the roots of his spiritual foundation.

In "O," he once again takes center stage, revealing himself to be a thoughtful, funny, multifaceted artist with the talent and drive to make it on his own.

From Booklist

Can a contemporary music artist simultaneously be marketable, squeaky clean, and possessed of street cred? That seems to be the question underlying this glossy, profusely illustrated autobiography by hip-hop artist and former B2K member Grandberry. His is a rags-to-riches story that strives to show--what with all the colorful family pictures, publicity stills, and onstage action shots of Grandberry at work--that gangsta rappers are people, too. Not surprisingly, the engaging young star is contemplating a career move into films, and he delineates his motivations and goals in touching, if often cloying, fashion. As for his veracity, references like the one to the strawberry "tree" in his childhood backyard may throw off persnickety readers' suspension of disbelief, but all in all, this is a very nice, unfailingly upbeat look at a young up-and-comer and a fine shelfmate for the likes of Girl Trouble [BKL N 1 04], about young Latina star Gloria Trevi. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for The Omari/B2K Fan, February 21, 2005
This review is from: O (Paperback)
The book O by Omari Grandberry is now available from MTV Books/Pocket Books. Omarion, also known as Omari Grandberry is the former lead singer of the boy group B2K and now he is a successful solo artist. B2K was at the top of their career when they disbanded. The movie You Got Served was about to premiere, they were in the midst of a successful tour and then it all stopped.

The book O is a must have for an Omari or B2K fan. The book is in full color and chock full of pictures of Omari and B2K. The quality of the book is awesome, it's almost like a collectors edition or a really cool tour program. You really have to have this if you are a big fan of Omari's, the book has pictures of him as a baby and a toddler.

Omari was born in 1984. The book chronicles the early years of his life and how he became a member of B2K. Omari had close ties with B2K manager Chris Stokes. Chris at one time was dating his aunt, whom he is now married to. Chris is responsible for forming several groups, one of his most popular groups was Immature, who later changed their named to IMX. Omari found out that Chris was looking for a new lead singer for a group he was forming. Omari expressed to his aunt that he was interesting in trying out to sing in the group, and as they say the rest is history.

Not many people know that B2K's first single, "Uh-Huh" actually dropped on September 11th, 2001. This changed their promotion plans for the day of the single release. Despite the changes in the world B2K pushed on and went all over the country promoting themselves and the single.

O is about Omari. His early years, the B2K years, the making of You Got Served, details of fan encounters, and of course---the big breakup. Chapter 7--Fallout, is Omari's version of the demise of B2K. More than anything Omari describes how he felt betrayed by the other members and how he ignored some of the early warning signs. There was no mudslinging or name calling, it was a rather peaceful description of how the events unfolded. The last chapter of the book-The Future is rather short. So in essence, O is all about Omari's life from childhood to now. An Omari fan or a B2K fan will really appreciate this book.

Omarion's book is truly an eye-opener for those who just thought him to be "another teen idol." This book gives supporters and non-supporters alike, a tiny glimpse into his world; his day to day struggle to just be the best him he can be. I highly recommend this book to everyone...
