I am pleased with a look and quality of this watch. It could be worn with a suit or casual. It's classy without being flashy or loud. XL (2200.50.00) size looks good on people with wide wrists. I would say if you wear XXL or XL gloves than this watch will look just right. It's a quality automatic (self-winding) timepiece that with a proper care will last you and your...

I just received my first Omega watch and it was beautiful. But after 10 days it fogged up on the inside of the crystal. How can they sell a brand new dive watch that is supposedly water proof to 600M that gets moisture inside? Isn't that the first QC check you perform? I contacted the dealer and told them I wanted a new watch that had been QC'ed. They supposedly...

I would say if you wear XXL or XL gloves than this watch will look just right. It's a quality automatic (self-winding) timepiece that with a proper care will last you and your kids' a lifetime. Co-axial movement (low friction thus more accurate), chronometer (tested and certified for precision by COSC) and 2000ft dive will give you plenty to swim around.

5.0 out of 5 stars big watch, April 24, 2007
I was looking for an Omega with the co-axial movement. I got this one, and I'm glad I did. It is HUGE and HEAVY. not for small wrists or for people who don't want their watch to stand out and be noticed. The movement so far has kept better time them my auto TAG or Rolex datejust.

5.0 out of 5 stars Watchmakers Advice, December 21, 2007
I am rather opinionated when it comes to luxury watches. This comes from spending 2 years in watchmaking school, studying directly under the guidance of a certified master swiss watchmaker who came here from Europe. Watches, especially mid to high grade swiss watches, are a passion of mine. I am not loyal to a brand or a style or anything else. I judge them for what they are, in terms of quality, function, construction, and style. A watchmakers point of view.

This said I will tell you that this particular watch is what I consider to be a "best kept secret" sort of watch. This is an AUTOMATIC watch (read: Mechanical - NOT Quartz), and of CHRONOMETER grade function. Chronometer as used here is a measure of accurate timekeeping, not quality - a point often misunderstood - and is used mostly from a marketing point of view by companies such as Rolex. HOWEVER. This movement in THIS watch is actually EXCELLENT in terms of quality, time keeping ability, and construction - easily comparable to other Swiss made movements from other famous manufacturers costing several times as much. This watch, properly serviced, will provide a lifetime of use - and probably more. Absolutely the sort of watch you pass down to the next generation.

All in all - and EXCELLENT choice - especially for those seeking their first QUALITY Swiss watch purchase.

Definitely recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Watch, September 28, 2011

This review is from: Omega Men's 2200.50.00 Seamaster Planet Ocean Automatic Chronograph Watch (Watch)
As I was researching my purchase of the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 2200.50.00, someone said that Omega was the Audi of watches, and having owned one for a few years, I can certainly accept the analogy.

Like an Audi, Omega is not too in your face, but has a lot of style and understated elegance. They are built in a very solid way and feel substantial and expensive on the wrist.

This Planet Ocean XL is not subtle in terms of size. If you are very thin or skinny in the wrist you may be better off with the 42mm version of this watch, because 45.5mm is quite large. But provided you like the look and feel of this watch, you won't go far wrong here.

It isn't gaudy or flashy, no bling or silliness. But the beauty of styling cues that date back to the original Seamaster made in 1948. This watch has heritage, and yet is also modern and timeless. The attention to detail as you examine the watch makes you realize just what kind of effort went into building it. Omega use soft satin polish and shiny polish around the design to ensure that light catches the watch in various different ways, creating that visual interest that is lacking on many watches. But the visual interests on this specific model are subtle and understated, not screaming 'look at me!' If you want that they make one with an orange bezel and even an orange alligator strap! The significantly more expensive 2011 model even comes in white or blue face options, and any Planet Ocean can be made with a diamond bezel if desired. Heck, they even make a solid gold one if you have five figures to spend.

The seconds hand on this watch sweeps at 7 movements per second. Time telling is accurate and certified by serial number unique to the watch as a chronometer, which is a big deal. In the dark the Superluminova glows fiercely so you can tell time in the dark. The back of the watch has an engraved Hippocamp, a mythical sea creature that was supposed to pull Neptune's chariot through the ocean; a comment on the 2000ft of water proof that this watch is capable of. Deeper than you are ever going to dive.

I think that this watch, which Omega launched in 2005, is an instant classic. It got its first taste of fame in the 2006 Bond movie Casino Royale, where Daniel Craig wore one of these on a rubber strap for the first part of the movie. In 2011, Omega made version 2.0 of this watch, with a clear back, an in-house movement, and a few other subtle improvements. But the price jumped to five or six grand. The original Planet Ocean (like this one) is still available new for three to four grand if you shop around.

I've owned mine for about a week now, but I just love it. This is an incredible timepiece that you could keep for decades and pass to your kids if you wanted to.

If I am going to nit pick, I'd say the anti-reflective coating on the crystal can pick up finger prints a little too easily. It is a heavy watch, so if that's not your thing it might take some getting used to. And the Omega clasp can get scratched over time, but of course that can be polished out by a jeweler. Other than that, what's not to like really! It puts a smile on my face, and it probably will yours too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Omega = The last watch that you will ever have to buy., June 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Omega Men's 2200.50.00 Seamaster Planet Ocean Automatic Chronograph Watch (Watch)
I purchased the Omega 2200.50 from Amazon, and I am very pleased with my decision. I was reluctant of making this type of purchase from Amazon,at first, because I was concerned that the warranty card would not be provided as per their policy. However, I was reminded that Amazon.com stands by the items that AMAZON sells. The Omega Seamaster Professional Planet Ocean is the first watch that I have purchased that cost above $350.00, and I do not regret my decision to spend this kind of money on this watch. I did plenty of research on this watch on numerous websites out there, including youtube videos. I am amazed with the quality of this watch as well as the ability of the crystal to not scratch, its non-glaring ability, and more importantly it precision in keeping time. This is a very large watch with conservative appeal. This is to say that the watch will be noticed on your arm. However, it is not like the watches that you may see on MTV where it's screaming for attention. This watch will stay in my family for generations if I have anything to say about it, and is going to my first son. The only decision I have to make is which Omega that I will purchase to give my younger boy!

Just bought one of these. Arrived from the US to Australia in 4 days including over a weekend - good work!

The watch is beautiful - I cant stop looking at it. Wasn't sure if the 45mm would be too big but it's perfect.

This review is from: Omega Men's 2200.50.00 Seamaster Planet Ocean Automatic Chronograph Watch (Watch)
At 45.5mm, this is an imposing watch on small hands or wrist. Consider the smaller version as an alternative if a heavy watch will make you uncomfortable. As with most Omega watches, outstanding craftsmanship and attention to detail. A word of warning; If you have previously purchased an Omega watch from an authorized dealer, resist the temptation to save some money through grey market purchase as you will most probably be disappointed. I purchased this from Jomashop which shipped without box and never received the pictogram card, C.O.S.C. certification card or a certificate of authenticity making it difficult to acquire fair market value if you decide to sell latter to upgrade to different watch. If buying this type of watch like this is okay to you, go to a pawn shop. I was sent a box latter after numerous emails and phone calls but with the wrong instruction manual with no explanation or additional response from the merchant. Omega watches are defiantly top of the line but seem to be headed in the direction of Rolex of pushing perceived value to unrealistic heights so if you want an Omega, get one now as the retail price of the Planet Ocean is now at $3880.00 up from $3650.00 just a year ago, expect it to go over $4000.00 and higher before long.

I'll get rid of it as soon as it's back from Omega and buy a brand I can trust. What a disappointment. No problems with my $400, 10 year old Citizen that has actually spent time in the ocean and pool.
