Editorial Reviews

Review

THE OMEGA GAME is an exciting action adventure drama that takes the Douglas movie, The Game, and places it inside the plot of Lord of the Flies. Readers will finish this novel in one sitting because they need to know what is the game, who is behind it, and why is it happening. Though no Red Badge of Courage, this novel is a fun reading experience that will send fans of Bolan seeking out other works by author Steven Krane.

4.0 out of 5 stars exciting action adventure drama, September 13, 2000
This review is from: The Omega Game (Paperback)
Imagine waking up in a strange but luxurious room on a tropical island with a beautiful ocean view, but not knowing how or why you are there. Twenty people varying in age, social class, race, and gender, share no memory of how they arrived on the island, where they are, or when they will leave. No one seems to know anyone else. Each one has a contract for them that is signed stating they agree to play the "game" or forfeit.

After a heated debate, one of the group members walks away insisting he is not a player and will find an escape from this trap. The next time the other participants see this person he is dead with the nineteen others all having a solid alibi. Everyone agrees that those individuals who mysteriously transported each of them here killed the dissident. As one after another of them die, the mood of the survivors turn from fear to ugliness as mob rule takes control of them.

THE OMEGA GAME is an exciting action adventure drama that takes the Douglas movie, The Game and places it inside the plot of Lord of the Flies. Readers will finish this novel in one sitting because they need to know what is the game, who is behind it, and why is it happening. Though no Red Badge of Courage, this novel is a fun reading experience that will send fans of Bolan seeking out other works by author Steven Krane.

4.0 out of 5 stars Absorbing Thriller!, December 15, 2000

The Omega Game is a suspenseful thriller, which will capture you from page one, and will not let you go, until you finish this book! I found this book absorbing and had no trouble keeping all of the characters straight. The book moved along, almost like a chess game!

The book starts out with 20 people waking up in a hotel on a lush tropical island without their memory intact of the previous 2-3 months. There aren't any phones or computers or any electronic devices in the hotel. No one knows how he or she got there or how he or she will leave. They are all given an envelope with 5 rules 1) ____ is a player in the game, 2) The players must participate in the Game, 3) The players may agree to change the rules, 4) The players must obey the rules or forfeit, and 5) The winner of the Game is the last player who has not forfeited. The reader soon finds out that to forfeit means to die. But who are the killers? One of them, or someone unknown? Who will be next to die and who will win "the Game"? The reader soon finds out that the players are being watched when new envelopes with the new rules mysteriously appear when the players agree to change the rules. The reader follows the participants in the Game and how they must cope to survive. Who can be trusted?

Great thriller! This book was incredibly hard to put down and the ending will absolutely shock you!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll read it in one sitting, January 4, 2001

I know I did- I didn't have a choice, I couldn't get to sleep until I found out what happened! This book is a non-stop thrill ride. I'll admit that the characterizations may be a bit vague, and that I sometimes had difficulty keeping track of all the various characters, but the action was immediate and compelling, and swept me along from start to finish.

Frankly, this book is what I consider to be "mental junk food," but please don't take this as criticism! Some of my favorite books and movies fall into this category. In books like these, what's more important to me than deep philosophical ruminations is an interesting plot, and a well-constructed, involving story.

The Omega Game delivers both of these, and is a very enjoyable, suspenseful read.
