5.0 out of 5 stars A dangerously addictive book!
Omega is a chilling medical thriller that immediately caught my attention. It tells about a multi-resistant,fatal bacteria that has taken control of Los Angeles. The story makes you start to wonder about how something as simple as a sore throat can become a nightmare. The story centers around the life of surgeon Marcus Ford. 3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Reading
I liked this book. I took it on vacation with me and found myself in what spare time I had reading with enjoyment. The characters were challenging to get attached with and made me think constantly. I was surprised at the thin plot and that is why I gave it 3 stars. It was easy to recognize the villians of both sexes. This is the second book I have read by Mr. Lynch...

5.0 out of 5 stars A dangerously addictive book!, July 8, 1999

This review is from: Omega (Paperback)
Omega is a chilling medical thriller that immediately caught my attention. It tells about a multi-resistant,fatal bacteria that has taken control of Los Angeles. The story makes you start to wonder about how something as simple as a sore throat can become a nightmare. The story centers around the life of surgeon Marcus Ford. Ford is your average forty something year old going through a mid-life crisis. And not only does he have the stress of a doctor who can save a life one day and not be as lucky the next time, but he's also widowed. And he is having problems trying to understand the nature of his ever-changing, teenage daugther. One day he makes a speech and meets two new people, from that day on his life would never be the same. Before he knows it, his life is out of control. But he must take control of it once again for the sake of his fatally ill daugther. He is Sunny's only hope and he has to struggle against time to get Omega,a drug that may not even exist! I think "Omega" is and outstanding book that can feel so realisic and possible sometimes that it's freightning. I personally read in just hours and I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a book with a great plot and subplots full of twists and turns!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MARVELLOUS AND UNUSUAL THRILLER, August 19, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Omega (Paperback)
I picked this book up at the airport desperate for something to take my mind off the horrors of the transatlantic read-eye. As it turned out, I chose wisely. From the book's jazzy streetwise opening to its deeply troubling conclusion I was utterly absorbed - and quite reluctant to get off the plane - definitely a first for me. If I had to say what I loved most about this book I would say its simply the writing. Lynch's characters sparkle with wit and every one of them stands out in their own right. You simply can't say that about 9 out of 10 other thrillers, even the well-plotted ones. I'm on the look-out for Mr Lynch's work from now on. Great stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT TO BE MISSED!, December 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Omega (Paperback)
I have read all P.Lynch's books(except The Immaculate Conception which by the way am deperately searching)and all have been outstanding and this one was no let down. The twists and turns in all his books are always brilliant. In this particular book the topic is original and deeply alarming. The characters are really convincing(Dr.Ford just won't let go).I'll have to be on the lookout for his new one FIGURE OF EIGHT soon to be released. As a footnote thanks Mr Philip Sington for replying to my e-mail last October 98 ,unfortunately I still haven't got hold of the book in question THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION.If you read this review Mr Sington please keep me posted.

5.0 out of 5 stars An intelligent thriller (for once!), December 7, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Omega (Paperback)
No car chases, no mass slaughter, no disembowelling (except on the operating table). Just real people, real issues and real drama. A thriller for grown-ups that doesn't treat its readers like short-attention-span idiots. Settle in for a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly compelling, March 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Omega (Paperback)
This book was an eduction for me, since I didn't know much about the worlds of medicine or microbes. The story follows the slow but deadly progress of a harmless bacterium that passes the' trick' of multi-resistance to other, much more dangerous bugs. But 'Omega' isn't at all the end-of-the-world garbage I was afraid it would be. We witness the crisis deepen and develop from the point-of-view of Dr Marcus Ford, as it closes down his ward and affects his personal life. The ending was also much more philosophical and interesting than I expected. The arguments and outlooks of the major characters are challenging and compelling. Just when would you deploy a drug of last resort, knowing it's the last weapon in your armory? A very interesting book indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A highly authentic thriller - compelling!!, December 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Omega (Hardcover)
Omega is well-researched and compelling. The story centers on one of today's real medical crises - the imminent failure of antibiotics, with all the horrors that implies. Frighteningly authentic and peopled with well-drawn characters, it's scary without becoming - as so many 'scientific' thrillers do - improbable. A great read if you prefer entertainment with substance, topicality, and good writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GRIPPING AND THOUGHTFUL THRILLER, October 27, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Omega (Paperback)
The joy of this book is the way it treats its subject. Too many medical/biotech thrillers go for the schlock horror effect. OMEGA knows that its subject is genuinely terrifying and uses realistic scenes and believable characters to build a sense of crisis. The result is a thought-provoking and genuinely alarming read.

4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD & PLENTY! GOOD story with PLENTY of Scary Stuff!, November 9, 2001
This review is from: Omega (Paperback)
This is a Really Great Book! I enjoyed this story great, the characters are great, the action is great, plot thickens wonderfully. Lynch hits the mark with this completely gross bug that kills everything in its way. Watch out for that little tickle in your throat..it might be Omega!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent topical medical thriller, September 2, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Omega (Paperback)
Patrick Lynch has produced an excellent medical thriller here. It is well written (which makes a change) and has the additional value of not just being plausible but probable! If we are not already worried about the return of the preWW2 killer diseases, we ought to be, and will be after reading this book. I noticed the comment of your Florida reader about reading this on a plane and being bored. I also purchased it at an airport, but with a different result. I have no hesitation in recommending this for those long flights, although try not to think about the air conditioning recircling all those little bugs....
