5.0 out of 5 stars Cats love it
It took them a couple of days of sniffing before they tried it, but once they tried it they loved it. The only problem with it is that it leaves little cardboard bits around that they scratched off and I have to vacuum it up.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for my current cats
I've had cats in years past who loved to sharpen their claws on the cardboard like this in the past. The two cats I have now are totally not interested in this...not sure why.

5.0 out of 5 stars Survives 19 cats...., December 12, 2008

I bought this in spite of some comments regarding the item being flimsy.

Came back and bought more. If they can survive my 19 rescue kitties, they can survive anything. And some of these cats are BIG..not fat, just huge...18 pounders..

My fuzzies really like the incline. I refresh with catnip and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Could Save Upholstery With Training, January 6, 2008

I bought this in order to save my upholstery when my daughter came home for Xmas with her cat. He did use it sometimes, but it took a lot of picking up and moving the cat from the sofa to the scratchbox - he rarely chose the box for his first target. However he did use it and seemed to enjoy the substitute. With more training I'm sure he would use it regularly and leave the sofa alone. The con to the thing is that it is not tall/long enough for him to stretch himself while scratching, I don't know if that is important to a cat. Another thing is that it is lightweight plastic and he flipped it over a few times in order to get at the red toy underneath. Not a problem for me to flip it back, but the scratching function is not available when it is flipped. I would cut off the toy and stabilize the box somehow if the cat were to stay with me for longer.

My boys (cats) love this scratcher. The plastic base is a bit flimsy but it's held up so far. Once the cardboard part wears out I may look for something with a stronger base - need to give it more time. Overall a good purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars messy but...., June 27, 2009

This review is from: Omega Paw SBE Scratch Box Everest (Misc.)
It took awhile for my cats too figure out what this was suppose to be but, once they did-it was love! It does make a total mess so if you're a neat-nick, I would stick with a reg. scratching post. But my cats seem to have a competion going on to see who can scratch off more paper in one sitting & really enjoy it. Plus-when one side 'wears out', you can just flip it over & get double use out of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars My foster cats/kittens LOVE this thing!!!, January 13, 2009

This product lasts for months even with heavy daily use (I typically have 5-7 foster cats/kittens at a time.) The pom pom in the back is an added bonus - it's a kitten magnet! I don't think the plastic is flimsy at all, and even my 17lb cat uses it with no problems. I haven't had a problem with any unwanted scratching since I bought it (which is amazing in my house!) I tell everyone I know to get one for their cats!

5.0 out of 5 stars Saves the furniture from the cat claws..., May 19, 2011

One cat ignores it -

But the other can't live without it...

The dog prefers to chew on the plastic frame.

Easy to change the cardboard inserts and a real nice furniture saver.

2.0 out of 5 stars I don't know what's wrong, March 22, 2011

I had high hopes for this product. Unfortunately my cat just won't go near it. He was much more entertained with the cardboard box it came in.

Not even the red bouncy ball underneath attracts his attention. I've tried everything, from pushing him to look at it, to ridiculously showing him how to do it myself. Embarrasing, really. But no gain.

I tried putting some catnip I had around and there was absolutely no effect. Although to be fair, it wasn't a particulary effective catnip anyway.

Some cat toys bring some good catnip included to help induce play. It would be nice if this one did.

As I type this, this scratch box is still lying around on the floor, literally untouched.

I'm really sorry to put only two stars, as the idea makes sense and I tought it would work. But in practice, it just didn't. At least not in my case. Better luck to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for basements, September 25, 2010

I'll start off saying that I already knew my current household of cats liked cardboard scratchers. They certainly don't go unused, regardless of brand. However, I particularly like these because the base is plastic rather than cardboard. It lacks a solid base but the plastic is relatively thick (1/8" or ~3mm) and seems to support my hefty cat (18 lbs) just fine.

I have an unfinished basement where the cats spend a majority of their time, but that gets wet periodically. The scratchers with cardboard bases get damp and lose their integrity. While it would be even nicer if this product came in a wider size, as it is, this is a nice solution for having scratching pads in my basement.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected..., August 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Omega Paw SBE Scratch Box Everest (Misc.)
The idea of a ramp model is good but this cat scratcher just doesn't work for my 3 cats. They are happier tearing up the cardboard box that sits next to this.

The cardboard is decent--but if I had to do it again, I would buy a doublewide and a different brand. The scratcher is smaller than I expected it to be for $14.99 +frt. What I do not like about it--is that the plastic is SUPER FLIMSY-and cheap. It slides across a cement hardwood floor too easily and it's too flimsey to mount up higher for cats to scratch. The cardboard slides out of it way to easily.

If I had to do it again, I wouldn't waste my money trying to save a buck-as this is only worth $5 tops; I'd put the extra money out and get something decent.
