Finally, something new and fresh,

A band that does not adhere to one genre, Bucho!'s album Omit the Harsh is a potpourri of styles and textures. Their music has a positivity which rivals Stevie Wonder and their diverse blend of styles rivals groups like Ozomatli and The Cat Empire. I was particularly impressed with their 2003 release, and this 2005 release demonstrates a more mature, soulful sound. Particularly impressive is "Pain and Pleasuring", in which Pease's voice reaches new limits of personal expression and "Omit the Harsh" in which Lippi's creative bass line is one of the best I have ever heard. Also refreshing is the use of horn section which has been sadly missing from pop music in the 1990s. This band has it all: solid beats, expressive vocals, tight horns, and great songs. Having been to many live shows, it is worth driving a few hours to hear them. I highly recommend this album to anyone looking for refuge from pigeon-holed artists and groups.

I saw this group on a Sacramento TV noon news show and immediately looked up their CDs on Amazon.com. The first I received was the "Omit the Harsh" CD and it has become the first one I reach for in my car. I have turned a number of my friends onto this group and will be looking for live shows in my area (just north of their home).
As for the music, I very much enjoy the jazz influence in the arrangements and the use of a horn section with Sax. This CD has a great mix of jazz, rock and even some hip hop making it easy to listen to for several age groups (I'm in my 50's but my kids, 17 & 19 as well as my mid 30's crew) can get into the groove. Well worth a listen! I will buy more of their music.

They bill themselves as an "Urban Blend" band. Lots of brass, keyboard, guitar and percussion behind the lead singer in the best mix yet from Bucho. In this, Bucho's first labeled album, we can actually hear the words and understand the lyrics. Having heard them onstage in a jazz club in Tacoma, I may have a better appreciation of this jazz/latin/pop fusion band of professionals. Rumor has it that all are classically trained and play multiple intruments. All original songs. I have two of their albums and will definitely purchase their next ones. See them live. Good show!
