Superhero intervention as an everyday thing,
By Mark J "Mark" (Long Beach, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Omni - History Begins (Paperback)
This book is fantastic if you like superheros. In this version of history, superheroes are a rare breed, but relied upon regularly for help. The world's most powerful superhero, Omni, establishes an academy for young superheroes to train and develop, before being assigned by the Heroes Union to protect a city/regional area. In the midst of this training, a super villain arises and tries to take over the world, and the young academy students must help the established superhero teams defeat him.
The author has successfully created an alternate existence where superhero teams regularly help out with natural disasters, super villains and the odd "cat up a tree" problem. Along with superpowers, students are taught super responsibility (without a direct, Stan Lee-ripoff, with super powers come super responsibility) and making sure that they will not be swayed by greed, power, fame...all the trappings of the super villain. The characters are great, the plot twists enjoyable, and it really sets the stage for a series of books. This is a tremendous effort for a first novel, and the end product is well worth the read.

I just finished reading this book a few days ago and I must say I Loved It!!! It has well developed characters, an unique plot, plenty of action and a story that keeps you reading. The book is very large yet there is no lull in the storytelling, you never hit that point where you want to skip ahead and get to the action.
I recommend this book to anyone who reads comic books, enjoys superheroes, science fiction, fantasy or just wants a really good book to read. Pick this up!! You won't be disappointed!!

The book starts off great and gets you interested in the story line almost immediately. Young superheroes attend a superhero academy in order to learn how to control their superpowers and become heroes only to be hurled into the middle of a war that extends across the globe. They must use what they have learned and work together in order to save the planet from being taken over by the villains. I recommend this book to any who enjoys science fiction or simply enjoys reading a good book.

The Best Book I EVER Read,
By Mr Smith (Michigan, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Omni - History Begins (Paperback)
One of my best friends was one of the authors test readers. I was able to scam a copy of the original manuscript for this book. I heard this book was now up on Amazon.com and I wanted to get my copy as soon as I could.
I don't even have words to say what a good read this was. I can't wait to be able to get the final copy. It started out like a superhero Harry Potter. A bunch of super kids all show up at this academy where are going to learn to be superheroes. Then it grewup and started to become more epic like. My take on this is the author bringing you into his world. In this book there are new superpowers and all different superheroes. It has a highly detailed science fiction feel to it. Once the reader gets drawn in the book takes off. War breaks out all over the world and the heroes end up being in just about every country. I've been reading comic books my whole life and I walked away from this book knowing a whole new superhero world. This book gave me the same feeling I got when I first started reading comic books. I definitely recommend this book to science fiction guys who like action and adventure. Plus the book totally sets up a second book <or more>.

This book chronicles the rise of young superheroes to their potential with great promise of more to come. You can check it out, even read/listen to the whole book, on youtube for free, but the author deserves to get paid for this complex world that's easy to read and very addictive. Which is why I bought it for my son. My son and I and many others are looking forward to the next book. This book had me laughing and cheering out loud. Parents can be assured the book has no cussing, sex, or back talking brats. It has some violence and death, but they are important to the story and character development. I hate the concept that superheroes never hurt anyone and no one ever gets killed. This book treats the readers to an honest look at what supers in the world would really be like without beating us over the head like Watchmen.

I'm a bit influenced, as I'm a friend of the author and an amateur editor of the book, but as a sci-fi/fantasy/superhero buff, I was impressed with how the story encompasses our entire world as a common source of heroism and true family values garnered from multiple societal beliefs. Joseph has brought together many cultures with one purpose in mind -- a better, safer, and more beautiful world for all.
There are many influences played out in his portrayal of a world both protected and threatened by those with abilities provided by DNA, science, and environment. The world created is not just a fiction, but also a subculture that could be soon be feasible given our world's ever-growing physical/political/scientific/environmental/cultural structure. This is definitely worth a read for anyone who is a fan of the mutant/superhero genre, as it provides a viewpoint that is prevalent for our modern society -- exploration of youth, family, training, and mentoring for those with abilities uncommon to the average population, and how they grow, learn, and are even exploited. It's easy reading, though the story is intricately crafted -- definitely give it a try.

It is an amazing read. "OMNI - History Begins" is for those that are young and young at heart. Remember your superheroes and think, "Where did they learn it all?" This book will not only help answer that question, but give you a totally different view on a superhero's life!

Omni: A New Chapter in the History of Greatness,
By
This review is from: Omni - History Begins (Paperback)
From the start of time, Authors have sought to bring stories to a reader's eyes that would bring them joy, sadness, and just pure adventure.
Some Scenarists skirt the Pupil's Palate--while others--are able to take their tall tales, and triumphantly traverse through the Thinker's Tabula Rasa. Joe Graham, like the characters in his story, has that extra touch. Joe is able to tell an intricate story about Superheroes who deal with the Powers and Pressure of their "everyday" life. The Chronicles of Darkspeed, Bioforce, Cosmos, Shi, Virtuoso, and Olympian are wonderfully told in Omni: History Begins. I suggest that everyone purchase this Novel, and discover--as many others have--the Omniscient of Awe.

Where super powers are a reality!,
This review is from: Omni - History Begins (Paperback)
Joe Graham has created an awesome alternate universe where super powers are a reality! So what happens when you are barely a teenager yet you have the powers of a near-god? Young characters with power combinations never seen before are invited to the Alpha Academy where they will learn how to use their exceptional gifts hopefully for the greater good.
OMNI is not just about action and displays of otherworldly abilities. The young heroes grow as friends and experience unique social situations that really make a person think about the difference of everyday happenings when super powers are involved. I now have new super heroes to add to my list of favorites and really look forward to reading the next book! |
