Find better quality elsewhere...,

Look closely at the photo and you can see the poor weaving quality. I bought one of these as a gift and was too embarrased to give it. I bought a Hatteras hammock from ExoticHammocks.com and it is of much better quality. Look around, there are better deals than this. Also, if you're going to leave the hammock outdoors, you're better off with a polyester hammock than cotton.

The hammock requires 12 + feet to hang in. If you have more than 12 feet of space you can extend the length from the ring at the end to the hanging point with a proper test rope or chain. I found this out by writing to the company. The product came with no information about size.

Takes a while to get but worth it,
This review is from: Omni Castaway Rope Hammock (Lawn & Patio)
The hammock is comfortable, sturdy and envelops the individual (or individuals I can easily fit in it with any girl) it does take 13+ feet to hang but if you get 2 2$ hooks at any hardware store and about 12 feet of sturdy rope you can make a hangmans noose to hold the hook and tie a line arround the tree thus making the hammock hangable and yet still moveable in the house in case of serious storms... It takes much time to get it since they don't keep it in stock but the price is very reasonable and it is of superior quality... Do not even wory about the fact this is made of rope and that it will hurt your back (I was concerned) for it is so soft it isn't even noticable and unlike its sister which is solid fabric this will breath and stay very cool in the hot humid sun.

A hammock is one of those things that I just wasn't sure if I'd use it a lot or not. I've got comfortable chairs that I could fall asleep in, so I wasn't willing to invest a lot into a hammock that would just turn into a decoration. That's why I got this hammock. The cotton rope stretches a lot. The first time I climbed into it, as soon as I shifted my weight, my butt was not just dragging on the ground. It was firmly planted there. I had to stretch the empty hammock so tight that you could see it stressing the ends of the stand before it was tight enough that my 230-lb body didn't bring it to the ground. The nice, open weave is nicer than a solid hammock, however. While it doesn't *look* comfortable, it really is. And you get nice air circulation instead of a sweatty spot underneith. Also, it doesn't put your lawn in the shade -- unless you're in it! If you want a really good hammock, keep looking. But if you want an inexpensive hammock, this one may fit your bill.

An Oasis Outdoors.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Omni Castaway Rope Hammock (Lawn & Patio)
My husband and children purchased the Castaway Rope Hammock as a birthday gift for me. I love the detail of the craftsmanship. We purchased a frame from a local retailer so that it can be moved around the yard depending on the need at the time. The 13 foot length just fits in the frame. I wanted the hammock, so I could enjoy the out doors with my family. Do to illness, I have to take alot of down time, most of the time it is indoors, because it is hard to get comfortable outdoors. But now, when I need down time, and everyone else is outside, I use my hammock, the large width even allows my children to snuggle and enjoy our time together. It is relaxing, comfortable and just fits my need for an " Oasis".

I almost decided not to buy this hammock based on the not-great reviews. A saggy hammock? Sure; it's cotton. And yes, when I first put it on the stand and lay down on it, my butt did touch the bar. But this is why there is a word called "adjustable." Simple solution: shorten the chains connecting it to the stand. Sure, you wouldn't have to muck with that with a synthetic fabric, but you also wouldn't have the wonderful smell of minimally-processed cotton. The only possible downside is that it will easily mold if left outdoors in the rain, but since I don't want to be laying out on a hammock in the rain anyway, it's not a big deal.

Estimated life of 1 summer,
By A Customer
This review is from: Omni Castaway Rope Hammock (Lawn & Patio)
This is a very comfortable hammock and I agree that two adults fit easily. However, we purchased this hammock for Father's Day in 2001. Today, July 28, 2002 I had to throw it in the garbage. During the first summer of use the varnish faded and left bare wood. This summer, the ropes started fraying and breaking. We have retied ropes and have been able to use it until today. Four ropes broke this afternoon and left a huge hole in the center. We live in Spokane, WA and stored it inside during the fall and winter. You get what you pay for but I clearly expected this hammock to last longer than this! I'm very disappointed with the quality of this hammock.

Hammock is not for outdoors.,

The quality of the cotton rope is poor, and the hammock has been coming apart after only a few weeks use. It cannot take a summer rain and does not withstand any weather abuse. Bettor for the indoors, and we are sorry we bought it as an outdoor hammock.

hammock review,

this hammock is worth the 45 dollar sale price but certainly is not worth the original 99 dollar price. this is based on its ability to withstand being left outside whin not in use. cotton rots when it gets wet. there should be better care suggestions listed with the features. but at 45 dollars it is not a bad deal if one makes the effort to keep the hammock out of the weather.

Too weak.,

This review is from: Omni Castaway Rope Hammock (Lawn & Patio)
I am not happy with this hammock for the following reasons.
1) The rope used for this hammock is too thin; it cuts into the skin and I seriously doubt that it will hold two people safely. This will also be a problem when it has been in the sun for some time (which has to be expected for a hammock), UV rays makes cotton brittle. 2) The ropes are knotted, and not twisted like my previous hammocks, which causes it to cut into the flesh even more (and I weigh less than 120 lbs). 3) I have a standard free-standing hammock stand, and the hammock stretched all the way to the floor when I first used it (again, because the rope is too thin). If the hammock hadn't been relatively cheap I would have sent it back; I just resented paying again $20 shipping plus having the hassle of packaging/ waiting at the Post office etc. The only thing I liked was the with of the hammock. This was one experience I will write off as "you get what you pay for". |
