2.0 out of 5 stars Find Somthing Better!!, August 18, 2005
This review is from: OmniMount PLASMAUCL Articulating Wall Mount for 32" to 50" Displays (Electronics)
I am so disapointed with this mount. 1st of all the mount doesnt keep the plasma level verticly or horizontaly unless its completly against the wall. When the plasma is pulled out from the wall it tilts "back" and drops about 6in. down to the right. i adjusted it over and over again while it was pulled out and while it was flat against the wall. and it doest matter. While its out,i finaly get it level and i push it in and its tilted all wrong. Finaly the main arm on the mount bent. Prohibiting the TV mount to go againt the wall without me haveing to "Pick" the tv up and push it against the wall. One of the bearings on the arm has warn away under the weight of my tv making it extreamly dificult to move in and away the wall. My tv ways 97lb. and this is rated for 150lbs. The mount itself ways around 40lbs. so when i picked it up it felt sturdy and secure. Unfortiuntly this mount fails to deliver. I would defently spend the extra $$ to get a HIGH quality mount.

I bought the UCL to mount my new Samsung LNT4661 46 inch LCD. In my room, the TV is close to the corner, so I need a mount that allows the TV to sit at an angle to the wall. Cantilever was a must.

The mount is very solid, moves with ease, and is straightforward to install. The mount comes with a small hardware store in the box. More than 15-20 sets of screws come for any possible TV. The design is also clever. You mount the heavy bracket on the wall without touching the TV. Then you mount a universal adapter plate on the TV (while the TV is face down on the floor - use couch cushions or a bed). Then you lift the TV and temporarily hang in on the wall mount. You can then let go of the TV and screw the adapter to the mount. The only time I needed any help at all was holding the mount against the wall while marking the drill holes on the wall. Everything else was easily done solo.

I can't imagine a TV that wouldn't fit the universal mount. Any TV with four holes should work. It slides horizontally to any distance between 15 and 34 inches. It is vertically adjustable using slots in a metal bracket. Both short and long vertical brackets are included. My 46 inch TV uses the long brackets.

The mount extends more than 22 inches from the wall. If your TV is 44 inches wide or less (typical for a 46 inch diagonal TV), then it will allow the TV to be perpendicular to the wall.

The mount can be installed with the elbow on either the left or right, and the arm can be translated left/right on the wall bracket into many different positions. If is very flexible.

The back of the TV is about 6 inches from the wall when pushed back. The front of the TV is 10 inches out. This is not a small distance. If your TV will be parallel the wall when viewing, then this is not the mount for you - get something flush without the cantilever.

I don't believe there is any "cable management" in this mount. Of course, Velcro/twist-ties will work fine along the beams. Just make sure you don't crimp any cables when moving the TV around.

The TV easily moves at just about any angle and various distances from the wall. However, the up-down tilt feature locks the TV in place. You need to use the included allen wrench to loosen the bracket and adjust the tilt, then lock it down. It's not something that you can change easily or regularly. I mounted the TV center 4 feet high, so it looks good with no tilt whether sitting or standing. I expect changing the tilt would be a 2 person job - unless you remove the TV first.

The instructions tell you which screws to use for all 2005 and 2006 TV models. The Omnimount website identifies the screws for newer TV's.

There were several discrepancies in documentation - none of which were too difficult to overcome. The website said to use screws "J", but they were too short. The "K" screws worked. The website says 32-50 inch TV's work with this mount, and my specific TV was listed as compatible. However, the box said 42 inch maximum. Nevertheless, it fit my 46 inch TV just fine. The instructions in the box had pictures only and no text. The website had both. You need 14 washers (6 for the wall stud screws, 4 for the mount-to-adapter screws, and 4 for the TV screws). The mount only came with 10. Fortunately, the TV came with 4 screws and washers. The screws were also too short, but the washers came in handy.

One last note - an electronic stud finder is an absolute must when installing this mount. The wall mount screws are huge (9/32), so you must hit the middle of the stud. If you miss by half an inch, you could split the stud and have a poor connection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid and Simple, February 1, 2006
This review is from: OmniMount PLASMAUCL Articulating Wall Mount for 32" to 50" Displays (Electronics)
I bought the OmniMount Cantilever UCL arm for a 42" Plasma. I decided to install it myself and found it to be a rather simple to moderate installation. The directions are very simple to understand and showed several views of the process. However, the wall I decided to attach it to had non-standard (more and less than 16 inches apart)studs which can make the process rather cumbersome. They do allow for offset to account for this which was nice. The only time I needed help was lifting the TV.
This arm is VERY solid and I have had no unwanted movement. In fact I am very picky about quality and this arm meets all my expectations.

Pros: Solid stability, easy of use, quality

Cons: No height adjustment, fully retracted - tv is about 6-8 inches from wall.
