Very Low Profile!,

This review is from: OmniMount Power40 Articulating Motorized Wall Mount for 23" to 46" Displays (Black) (Electronics)
Bought this product to mount a 40" Samsung LED TV. The mount was easy to install and set-up. The trickiest part of the install is hiding the wires (for TV and mount motor) for a professional look. I chose to run my wiring into the wall behind the TV for a clean look. Take time and plan this part before cutting into your wall! When the mount is not extended, it rests very close to the wall for an extremely low profile look. This works especially well for thin LED TVs or rooms with limited space. The mount swivels into 3 programmable positions allowing the TV to have multiple watching positions. I can swivel the TV so that I can watch it from the recliner, hit the remote, and continue watching TV while grilling on the patio! I absolutely recommend this product to anyone with a room where you want the flexibility to watch TV from different positions and the ability to very easily change positions with the touch of a button.

After UPS dropped the box on my doorstep - I couldn't wait to set it up.
I was replacing a articulating single stud wall mount that was rated at up to 60 lbs. , although my 46" Bravia was 8 lbs. short of the limit the arm was bending under the weight load and clearly needed to be replaced with a stronger one. There was one broken part (the I.R. sensor) so I called the manufacturer and they are sending me a new one. It still works but the plastic cover for the sensor was broken (presumably) during shipping. (This appears to be a legitimate American product with American support!) Anyway 1st important fact - This is a single stud mount that is 5" left of center. So determine where you want your TV, find the nearest stud in the wall - any if you're lucky it will be 5" to the left of where you want the center of the TV to be. For me I needed to add a stud in the wall - so that added some serious time to the install process (I wanted it centered over my fireplace)... The hardware appears to be of exceptional quality and there were plenty of screws and adapter plates to properly attach to my TV. The instructions were good and they included a template too (which I did not use)... I had to tilt the unit as if the TV was being tilted down to get the TV bracket to hang from it and I had to modify the bolt pattern to allow for clearance to lock it, once hooked (wish I realized the 2nd issue before climbing up with the TV...) but after those minor adjustments - I'm up and running. Never thought that a motorized wall mount would be this cool! I can't wait to show it off to my friends and family! So in conclusion - Great quality product, Close profile to the wall, Great company, great price and it's super cool!

I was really skeptical at first; I didn't think a motorized mount could be priced like this and still function the way the way the manufacturer states it would. After nearly a month it still is looking and working great. Very easy to install; with just one person if need be. Comes with nearly every piece of hardware imaginable to be compatible with your TV and configuration; including a level, a drill bit (for pilot holes), and a wall template so there is no guessing on where the screws need to go. All you need is a drill and a screw driver.
The unit is 5 inches off center when it is fully closed; meaning the center of the mount is 5 inches left of the center of the TV (it wasn't an issue for me, but something you might need to keep in mind). The unit is quiet and moves fluidly from position to position. Once installed you have to program the mount with how far left and right it can turn before hitting the wall in order for the mount to work properly. This is accomplished in 3 easy steps and done from your remote; once programmed the mount will not allow you to hit the wall with your TV. The mount sticks out about 3 inches when fully closed; very comparable to some other non motorized mounts. I have my Omni Mount programmed into my Logitech Harmony Remote which I use in conjunction with my Logitech IR blaster. The system works GREAT! When I hit "watch TV" on my remote the TV and cable turn on and the TV mount moves to the position I have pre-programmed as my preferred viewing position (you can program up to 2 positions). When I hit power off, the TV and cable turn off and the TV returns to being flush with the wall. The remote that comes with the mount works well too, it's small and thin and like I said, it has 2 programmable positions not including the "home" position which is fully closed and retracted. There are only 2 small wires that plug into the mount; 1 for power and 1 for the IR eye. The only negative was the shield that covers the mount was cracked. It is completely covered by the mount and invisible; I choose not to ask for replacement. I highly recommend the Omni Mount Power 40. It was very easy to mount by yourself, even if you're not very technologically or mechanically inclined. I'm very glad I stumbled across it on Amazon - I almost paid $100 more for a mount that wasn't motorized.

Some background information before my review: I bought this product to mount my 46" Samsung LCD TV. Since my TV was the maximum size for this mount, I had to use the expansion brackets that came with the mount. I might have overdid the mounting because this mount was only design for single stud mounting. The wall stud above my fireplace was not directly in the middle so I had to make some modifications. Also I did not use the wall screws that the mount came with. Instead I used toggle bolts (look up TOGGLER on the homedepot website)
I wasn't kidding when I said I went overboard with the anchoring of this thing to my wall. I had a melamine board spanned across two hollow metal wall studs that I toggle bolted it to. Then I toggled bolted this mount in the middle of this board through to the drywall. Product Review: This mount is great, all the tilting/rotary angles were perfect for my set-up and it runs really smooth (I'd like it to be faster but then again your friends won't be able to sit there and wow at your TV while it's moving by itself if it moves too fast). It also runs pretty quiet just a slight soothing electronic hum. Also it's really low profile when at 'home' position and can come out and rotate away from the wall such that you can access the back panel of your TV (BIG BONUS for nerds like me that love to play around with the wiring back there). As for other cons aside from it being single stud mount, it didn't come with the screws I needed to mount the bracket to my TV. It did come with like 5-6 different sets but none of them fit my TV (another quick trip to Home Depot fixed that). In addition, the biggest flaw is the remote. It seems to have trouble "remembering" your preprogrammed positions. I would have to reprogram them in once in a while. But in the end I can't really complain, seeing what I have to pay for other mounts out there, most that aren't even electronic. It's a good buy and I highly recommend.

I would not recommend this mount.
First of all the mounting plate is NOT what it looks like in the picture. It's actually a sticker ontop of a piece of regular metal. And the sticker cannot be removed without leaving sticker residue. Also, the piece of plastic covering the mounting holes came broken in half. It's really flimsy. As for the functionality... When it worked for the first 2 hours it was pretty good. Moves the TV easily and smoothly. However, after the first few hours, pressing the left button on the remote would turn the TV right, and pressing right just kept moving the TV right. Basically both buttons moved the TV right, but it seemed very erratic. I took the TV off and kept messing with it. It kept on going right until it almost broke the power cord after being wrapped around the metal. Called Omnimount where an angry and very rude woman answered and was of no help. Was a very frustrating day. Sent it back for a refund. |
