5.0 out of 5 stars 20lbs mounts are 3/8 - 16 mounting thread (10 lbs mounts are 1/4 - 20)
The product is very good, however be sure to check the thread size on the back of your speakers. Many speakers that you will find for your home will have a 1/4" - 20 mounting thread in the back of the speaker. The Omni-mount 20 lbs mounts (both wall and ceiling type) will have 3/8" - 16 threads. Personally, I used the 20 lbs mounts and added a 3/8" - 16 female to 1/4"...

3.0 out of 5 stars Careful of the weight !!!
While the overall construction of these mounts is pretty good, the weight rating is questionable. I tried to use these with MK LCR950's which were near the 20 lb. mark and they simply didn't work. The speakers put too much of a load on the ball to get it to clamp properly. They were also not easily adjusted, since the plastic ball was deformed once clamped and making a...

Personally, I used the 20 lbs mounts and added a 3/8" - 16 female to 1/4" - 20 male thread adapter (also called a standoff sometimes) in order to mount my speakers. If you are mounting wood speakers with no pre-installed threaded insert for mounting, than the thread size doesn't matter since it comes with the required parts for screwing into the back of the wood frame speaker.

I agree with the other reviewer(s) that you should mount it to studs to get it properly secured.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Right, July 8, 2008

I received the speaker mount and was very impressed with how extensive the kit was. It had everything I needed to mount my speakers to the ceiling. Let me tell you, these mounts are very sturdy and have shown no indication of slipping at all. I am very happy with these mounts and actually purchased a second set for my rear surround speakers. One personal note about the amount of weight they hold: I would reduce by 50% the actual amount of weight the speaker mount will hold in place without any slippage or extra wear, when compared to the manufactures maximum weight (i.e. published max. holding weight of 20 lbs, I would suggest that a speaker no more than 10 lbs). This has been my personal experience.

The speakers put too much of a load on the ball to get it to clamp properly. They were also not easily adjusted, since the plastic ball was deformed once clamped and making a minor adjustment was no longer possible. I did use the ceiling mount version for the smaller siblings to these speakers and they worked fine. Other review recommending derating these by 50% is probably pretty accurate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good mounts, but the ball-joint slips a bit, June 22, 2009

Having purchased a set of Energy C-50 speakers, I had only a couple choices in speaker mounts. The Omnimount has a 3/8 16 male thread which is not indicated in the description.

Installation no more difficult than any other mount. The mounting hardware is fairly sturdy and well built with the exception of the ball-joint. The ball joint is plenty strong, but the plastic is a little soft. You have to tighten it really, really tight to get it to hold its position if you are significantly off from the natural hanging position.

Using the standard anchors into 1/2" drywall, the mounts seem suitable for 7 lbs speakers. For wall-mounting speakers, you will definately need to mount them to studs.

A couple of minor finish issues.

1. It did not include the black sleeve to cover the steel rod; a little shrink tubing from the home improvement store fixes that.
2. The bolt head on some units were painted black, others were left as stainless steel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Omnimount Ceiling Speaker Mount, February 25, 2011

Great product for mounting bookshelf speakers on the ceiling.
Installation is simple and clear, though I personally used butterfly toggle bolts instead of the ones which are provided in the pack.
The product is strong and feels resistant.
I rated 4 stars on the features because once mounted, the speaker cannot be fully rotated. The speaker front falls and directs towards the floor when rotated in a 90° angle.

And Amazon, fantastic as always, efficient, fast, no bad surprises.

I bought 4 of these for a theater room with 7.1 surround sound. They are made very vell, and are pretty adaptable/adjustable for ceiling mount applications. They allow me the correct angle for the speaker. They worked so well, I ordered 2 of them to mount a center speaker to the ceiling in a different room with 5.1 surround sound.

Bought these to hold speakers that are about 10 pounds each, and they are holding fine. Accidentally put the wrong screws in the back of the speaker once, but fortunately that did not damage the speakers. Not a fan of things that require allen wrenches to install. I don't have that attachment for my drill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, flexible speaker mount., November 16, 2010

I used these to mount a pair of rear surrounds, and they are worth every penny. They are extremely flexible; they are sold as ceiling mounts, but I actually screwed mine into the wall. The instructions are very good, and it comes with everything you need except for a drill. They even include a drill bit!! I highly, highly recommend these mounts. They look nice, are very strong, and cake to set up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Fine, July 18, 2010

This review is from: OmniMount Stainless Steel Speaker Mount for Ceiling (Black) (Electronics)
I purchased two of these to mount some rear speakers. The mounts are very sturdy, and I had no problems installing/adjusting them.

The plates that go on the speaker were slightly too large for my speakers, but the screws were long enough to secure it anyway. The instructions were a bit confusing, but aren't exactly needed. It's not a complicated piece of equipment. =D

My only complaint is that the packaging says that it comes with a black sheath to cover the metal post if desired, and there was no sheath in either package. The picture shows the post as black, but it is plain steel (silver).
