OmniMount U3 Tilt - Excellent Product!,
By JWP (Woodstock, GA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: OmniMount Systems Plasma Tilt Wall Mount (U3TILTMOUNT) (Electronics)
After finally taking the plunge for a plasma, I was forced to choose between the various wall-mounts compatible with a Panasonic TH-42PD50U. Panasonic offered various wall-mounts, but they were somewhat overpriced. The OmniMount U3 Tilt appealed to me primarily because of price, and it did not disappoint. The U3 Tilt was extremely easy to install. It includes a mounting template and various bolts and spacers, making it compatible with just about any large plasma. The silver powder-coated finish is also visually appealing, especially with a silver display.
The U3 Tilt is well constructed, and if I had to select a single shortcoming, it would be that the viewing angle cannot be locked into place once the plasma is hung on the mount. It is necessary to lock the viewing angle before hanging the plasma because of the large ergonomic handles used to hand-tighten the bolts. In regard to the other reviews which mention discrepancies in the size of the pilot holes, both the mounting template and the installation instructions I received instructed me to drill 1/4" pilot holes, and this worked well for 3/8" bolts. Overall, this product is highly recommended!

THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE ALL WRONG... WARNING....,
By Home Theater Boy "Home Theater Boy" (New Jersey USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: OmniMount Systems Plasma Tilt Wall Mount (U3TILTMOUNT) (Electronics)
I am not writing to tell you that the build quality of this item is bad... it's not. I like the mount and I believe the overall construction of it is solid...
It is the instructions I am warning you about. There are two sets... One on the Instruction Sheet. The other is on a Mounting Template that you stick on the wall... THE MOUNTING TEMPLATE INSTRUCTIONS ARE WRONG... PERIOD... They tell you to drill the holes with a 3/8" drill bit for a 3/8" screw... Anyone can tell you that you drill a smaller pilot hole for a screw (it ruined my build in cabinetry and I had to rebuild the entire frame to make this thing work. The 3/8" pilot hole is inconsistent with the Written instructions that tell you to drill a 1/4" pilot... Hard to ratchet in place but does work. Next... To find the right screws for your plasma (11 sets are provided) you will need to go to the omnimount web site for specs... But the details about what "screw" to use on the web site (and the corresponding letter "code) on the written instructions that came with the unit are completely contradictory (Even their tech support admitted the problem with the inconsistent coding of the parts). IF YOU BUY THIS PRODUCT - USE COMMON SENSE WHEN INSTALLING.. FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCTS... AND BEST OF LUCK...

Nice but confusing to mount,

As mentioned by the other reviewer, this mount's instruction is very confusing. Beware of the drill hole mismatch as mentioned. Go with the 1/4" drill bit when drilling the mounting screw guiding holes.
The lettering on the screws are definately messed up! However, you are only going to use one set of the screws (4 of them). Those will be the set that will fit into your mounting holes on your Plasma or LCD TV. I used a screw driver as a guage on how wide and deep the mounting holes are on my Plasma TV and then measure that against the sets of provided screws. I round up using the largest set(I think it is H) with the 4 square washers and the 2 TV mounts for my TH42PA25U Panasonic Plasma TV. As far as the other provided screws and materials, I used the large anchor type screws (4 of them, you can not mistaken them, the biggest of all screws provided) for the studs on the wall and the washers(4 of them), which are right next to the anchor screws. It mentioned not to use the plastic anchors for drywalls. So make sure you find the middle of your studs before you start ratcheting in your anchor screws. I am not sure if I need to use the spacers (1 and 2), which are mislabeled BTW. But they do have the "1" and "2" on them if you look carefully. I did not have to use my extension brackets so I can not say how easy or hard to install them. READ THE INSTRUCTION OVER TWICE before you start! and Good Luck..

If you're handy, this is a good one.,

My 50" Philips Flat TV is 175lb. So, I'm pretty happy that the product can hold the massive weight on the wall. I like the materials and the workmanship of the product. It does have a LOT of screws for different types TV's. However, it virtually offers no help how to mount the TV. You have to match and pick the screws and spacers, that best fit your TV.
The hardest part is to find the center of the studs. Because the small spacing between the bar and the hanging hex screws, I have to dismantle the bar in order to tighten the 4 big hex screws with a sockets. You should think about the wiring before starting the project. Pick the location well (where is the outlet) because you may want to cut a hole in the wall and hide all your wires. Took me one FULL day to do the project and I'm not that handy. If you're handy and have nerve to drill and cut holes, then this is for you. Otherwise, I think it's cheaper to get professional help.

This wallmount is great! The instructions weren't too hard to follow, and it came with everything needed for the install (except the tools). Just get a stud finder, drill, and have some wrenches and screwdrivers, and you're good to go. It comes with all the bolts you'll need to mount the plate to the wall, and to put the brackets on your TV. The most handy feature is a diagram of the wallplate that you attach to the wall with a push pin (provided) so you can drill your holes exactly where they need to be, and line them up with the studs in your wall. I used this on my 50" Pioneer Plasma (PDP5071HD), and am super happy with the ease of installation, and the way my TV is hanging on my wall now! It's much nicer than the TV stand we paid $300 + for (Wallmount was only $150), and the TV is much safer from the children playing. I seriously recommend this to anyone thinking of mounting your new Flat Panel TV to the wall. Especially if you're worried about your handyman skills .... I'm definitley a novice and had no problem what-so-ever.

Overall pleased with the mount. It is important to locate the studs. The newer stud finders are very good and makes this process easy without having to drill tiny holes. Once the TV is on the mount, there isn't much space between the wall and the TV to make connections. It is better to have the appropriate connections in place before the TV is hung. If not, you will end up having to make the connections by feel and using a mirror. I hung a 51" Panasonic before making any of the connections. I ended up having to plug in the power cord and cable connections by feel. This isn't a problem if you've got a readily available companion to help lift the TV off of the mount.

Good mount, but......,
By JoeY (Perry Hall, MD) - See all my reviews

I bought this mount for a 50" panasonic plasma. The mount was very sturdy, has enough hardware, has a nice template, but has a few other less obvious problems. It leaves minimal clearance between the TV and wall so you may have some issues trying to physically plug all the cables into your TV after you hang it on the mount. The clearance issue also doesn't allow my TV the full range of tilt. Also, the box it came in was all taped together and had obviously been opened before - and sure enough I was missing some things. Omnimount was nice enough to replace the parts, but it delayed my installation by a week.

This mount is very simple to install. The instructions were a little off as to which letter equaled what part but I used common sense and everything worked out fine. The mount is very sturdy and fit my 50" Philips plasma perfectly. The price,($158.95),including shipping was a great deal compared to $249.99 that Circuit city was charging for this same exact mount. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the screw up with the instructions, as per quality it ROCKS!

I bought this mounting kit for a 50" inch Samsung Plasma TV. (127 pounds)
Well make sure you have someone with you before you start because at one point you need more then two hands. In addition you need the second person to review and understand the instructions and to make sure you use the right screws. Overall easy to install and at the end a lot of extra screws left over. Why 4 stars instead 5 stars? I have difficulties to tighten the two screw for tilting the TV. The screws are to close to the TV.

I bought this mount for my 42" inch Vizio Plasma tv.Well first you use a stud finder and find the dead center of the stud. Then drill with 1/4 drill bit a starter hole.Have someone hold up the mount and use a ratchet to screw in the 3/8 in bolts and then you just have to hook the adapter rails to the tv and lift the tv it hooks on the rails on the mount.Once you take the bottom stand of the tv it losses 10 ponds of weight
