This BP monitor worked fairly well for the first 2 months, then it started acting up. It gave error codes E4 that I moved during the reading when I did not. It said E5 (clothing in the way) when I was bare from the waist up. It also gave highly fluctuating readings--systolic of 98 & a minute or two later of 71 (not possible). So it is unreliable, and you can't trust the accuracy of the readings. When I phoned customer service, they said I would have to ship it all back to them at my expense plus insurance and tracking, plus $8 for the return postage, so it would cost me about $20 dollars to return it, and who knows how many weeks they would keep it when I would be without a monitor. They also want the circumferance of your arm (problably to sell you another cuff). The customer service rep said the monitor couldn't be used while sitting on sofas, you have to sit on a hardbacked chair at a table. She also said it couldn't be used near anything electronic, even a television that was not turned on! She even said it my be the electrical outlet that's at fault. I tried all that, and it still doesn't work properly. This model was made in Vietnam; it is not reliable. Try another brand.

I wish I had seen these other reviews prior to buying. I constantly get erratic readings and am now getting error codes whenever i try to take my pressure. Total garbage.

I bought this on May 21, 2011, and have used it 65 times (I keep BP records). During that time I have experienced 19 monitor errors (E1 & E2 errors). I do not move while using the monitor and use it exactly the same way each time. This suggests that the monitor requires a retest 30% of the time. Sometimes even a second retest results in an error. I was a previous OMRON owner and was very happy with the old device; this new product is not as reliable as the old model. If I was buying again, I would find a BP monitor, from another manufacturer, with very basic features. This model is too temperamental.
I sent the unit back for repair, and OMRON returned it to me saying "unit is working within specifications".

I use this unit 5 times a day. Some of the reviewers have had error messages--so did I at first: here is how to avoid them.

First, always use the unit when plugged in. It has batteries but you you get optimal performance when plugged in. Second, the cuff line is designed to be removed from the electronic unit for packing/storage. I place the thumb of my non-cuffed hand on the point where the line meets the unit to ensure an airtight connection during the test. I've had no errors when following these two steps. hope this helps.

Worked good for the first 3 months. than started to receive error codes 1 sometimes, for cuff not on accurate. But I knew correct as did same way. So OK, maybe I was a little off. Also received error 5 clothes in way. Nothing in way. I even took my shirt off - nothing. It would take 3 or 4 tries before I would get a reading. It has now been over a year of having this product and I've had it. Past couple of months I have not been taking my reading every day due to the errors all the time. Now today for the past hour keep receiving ERROR 5. THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE WAY. The error 5 would be at the count down, when almost finished and the heart beat signal going. Please do not buy this if you value your life and really do have a high blood pressure issue because with all the trouble, it gives you high blood pressure. I WOULD NOT recommend this to my worst enemy. Oh than again maybe I would. Hearing CVS makes a reliable one. People who had same trouble with OMRON with code 5, love the CVS one. Will check that out.

Total crap. It's never reliable. Do not waist your money.
I cannot return it because I am out of the country but certainly would if possible.

Update April 1, 2014 (no April Fool's, here): The unit still works perfectly. I am not using it regularly (shame on me, right?) but when I get it out, it is still easy for me to use. My nurse from my home health care had forgotten her cuff at her last client's house, but I got it out and she was impressed with it. I really like it! Will definitely buy Omron products again.
===============================================================

I have been using this unit for about a month. I got a lot of errors when I first used it and figured out the cuff is too small to work well on my upper arm. I switched to my lower arm and it works fine. Its readings are about what I get at the doctor's office. It is easy to use if you follow the directions. I use it while siting up in bed. Since I am not sitting in a hard backed chair, I am careful that my lower arm is level with my heart. I have a lot of electronics near me, but haven't noticed any problems yet.

The cuff has a spring in it so it is easy for me to put on by myself. Once I use the thumb guide, a plastic dent to put your thumb in, and the blue line on the cuff to line up with blood vessels down the inside of my arm, I smooth the Velcro closed. I check the tubing to make sure it has no kinks, and align it down my arm. I make sure my arm is palm up. I make sure the cuff is still tight on my lower arm. Then I make sure the cuff is even with my heart and my arm is propped comfortably. Now I plug the tubing into the hole. This is easy because there is a hard plastic housing for tube and plug.

The big button gets one push after I plug in the power wire. I hold still.

Now, the machine quietly pumps up. On the display, there is an indicator that says ok when your cuff is right. A little heart on the black and white LED display shows the heartbeat from the top number reading to the bottom number, just as you would hear it in a stethoscope. Then it lets the air out. Your blood pressure and heart rate are displayed.

Then I use an app on my iPad to record it. This model does not connect to your computer. If you want to record your readings, you have to type them in someplace or keep a paper record. You can store a few readings in the device, and see them by pushing the small button.

I don't recommend sharing the cuff with other people with different sized arms. My ex is a pharmacist, and he says the blood pressure machines in pharmacies are often inaccurate. It seems that so many children use them, it throws the calibration off for adults.

I do recommend you take the device with you to your doctor. There you can have them show you how to position the cuff, and you can check your reading against theirs.

i thought my BP was high using this device but had it checked at 3 different drs office and ALL got readings about 10 pts lower than omron

Omron doens't seem as concerned as these should be !!! i emailed and got several replies about try this and try that and measure my arm. all delays when it simply needs to be calibrated.

they finally agreed i should return it to them which i am doing today. we'll see how fast and good they are at taking care of this

Many times I get the message that the cuff wasn't properly wrapped even though it was. To fix this I have to press with the finger of my other hand against the blue ribbon until the wrapping symbol comes up. Many other times I get an E5 error, even on many retries and on other arm. Even if it displays results, subsequent measurement are spread far apart. In summary, this model is crap.

Garbage. For every time that I get a reading I have to deal with at least one failed attempt first. Errors galore (which are so aggrivating that my blood pressure probably rises in response!).

I wish I had not wasted my money on this.
