Blood Pressure Monitor,
By White Shoe Navy (Indiana, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Omron HEM-711 DLX Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with Comfit Cuff (Health and Beauty)
Being a nurse, i've used all sorts of makes and models to monitor blood pressure, including the self application type. Most are flawed by poor unstable connectors, tubes too short to reach between patient and device, clumsy to wrap, the air supply knob is either too tight or too loose, or electrical cords too short to be practical, etc. I was hesitant, skeptical and reluctant to pay this much. (I don't mind so much if it just works!)
Now that the OMRON DLX Automatic Comfort Cuff has been in use for almost a month, it has proven it's worth! All the cords/connections are ample and stable. The reading is accurate and easy to obtain, even one-handed. It stays put when placed on the upper arm above the elbow, is comfortable and easy to complete the velcro closure. The memory allows comparison over a significant period of time and is a handy feature. I haven't tried to use it on battery power, but it gets my thumbs up!

I am on verge on medicine needs for high blood pressure and wanted my own machine to keep an eye on daily fluctuations. Consumer Report says this is a #1 machine and it is very, very convenient and works so well. You'll be happy with this purchase.

Likes it overall. Wish it was a little smaller and more portable - looking at the picture, didn't expect it to be of this size. But gives pretty accurate readings - same as what my doctor reads manually. Very easy-to-use - no help needed from others. Stores a lot of old readings and calculates averages. Reads heartbeat rate also. Can be used with batteries or ac adaptor - but if no battery put in, the date/time will not be correct.

I purchased the Omron HEM-711 after turning 40. I have a family history that made me interested in monitoring my blood pressure, and I want a unit that had received high ratings for accuracy.
I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the Omron is to set up and use. I especially like the memory feature showing the blood pressure reading, pulse, and the time of day of the reading. Taking my blood pressure is a very simple process. I simply slide on the cuff, lining the arrow up with my upper arm, and push the blue button. The machine takes care of the rest. The large numbers are easy to read. I am able to see my blood pressure, as well as my heart rate. Now, I have a week's worth of readings to help me be better informed before my next physical. (December 2009 update) I have now owned my Omron for almost 2 years, and am still impressed with the continued accuracy and ease of use! This was an excellent purchase.

replaced an older Omron HEM704c, works great as per product description.
I would have liked to hear the heart rate tone beeping like my old unit did. This unit is silent.

I love this product! Due to extemely high readings at my doctor's office along with other symptoms of hypertension I was told I had to get a monitor of my own and do daily readings. Because this product stores the last 60 readings my doctor was able to see the drop in my blood pressure. He took my pressure in his office with my cuff as well as taking it with his cuff. It is accurate to my cardiologists monitor. I was able to also see that I have "white coat" high blood pressure. When I am at home it is so much lower than when I am in a doctors office. Buy it -- it really works!! The price is also great. My local Rite-Aid had the same one for $99.00. Great price andOmron HEM-711 DLX Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with Comfit Cuff great product!!

I have two of these Omron units, I alternate their use to cross check. They are accurate to within a couple of points both systolic and diastolic of each other.
I am a retired "doc" - I know the correct way to take BP's. Most medical offices have pretty sloppy habits: eg. bp right after you have driven to office in DC area traffic, arm not at correct height, talking while listening, cuff over shirt sleeve, not considering "white coat" syndrome, etc. Just follow their directions and feel confident in the results. I have also cross-checked them against my old mercury cuff (pia to do yourself - that is why I use these units) and they are accurate.

I purchased the HM-711 DLX because it said it had a larger cuff. My arms aren't enormous (but obviously not twigs either) and I found the cheaper model I tried was right at the edge of not fitting. I was a bit leary of the rigid pre-formed end of the cuff, but have found it to be useful, eliminating the clumsy flopping and fumbling of the end you sometimes have when trying to apply the cuff to yourself one-handed. I've had very few error messages when taking a reading with the Omron HM-711 DLX, the measurements seem to be consistent and correct, and the battery operation is handy so you can take a reading wherever it's comfortable without being tethered to an outlet (but I'm pleased that there is an AC option too). The time and date were easy to set and the memory and averaging features are a great bonus. The manual gives clear (and even pictorial) instructions on the proper positioning, posture and times to take readings for the best results. The cuff is a little squeezy on your arm when it reaches peak inflation, but definitely NOT any tighter than the automated one my doctor's office has used on me. My Doctor said Omron was the brand to go with, and I agree that it's a quality instrument.

Purchased this recently and functioned well for the first week only. Does not work on batteries (never has) and now have error messages and is anything but "one-touch" to operate requiring numerous attempts to start. Readings now fluctuate dramatically. Recommend purchase of this type of item locally for ease of return.

As an RN I was interested in finding an automatic blood pressure monitor for personal use that was easy to use and reliable. Having used many automatic models in my work, I was aware of the problems associated with these. The Omron Hem-711 DLX is very easy to place on your own arm and is quite comfortable as well. The results are easy to read and the pulse and date/time features are a nice added feature. Several times after using the Omron automatic monitor, my husband took my blood pressure with a traditional blood pressure cuff and the results were nearly identical. Being able to use the monitor with either batteries or by simply plugging into household current is also a plus. And having an automatic monitor as we get older is a definite benefit just in case we start having trouble hearing those beats using the traditional method. Thanks Amazon for such a good product!
