Not only does the HEM-780 Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor utilize Omron's patented IntelliSense technology, but it also features the innovative Comfit Cuff. The ComFit Cuff is pre-formed for a quick and proper fit that is perfect for both medium and large-sized arms (nine to 17 inches). It's easy to apply the cuff to your arm without any assistance -- simply wrap the cuff around your arm and press start. In seconds your blood pressure and pulse are displayed on the large digital panel. Proven time and time again, Omron's IntelliSense technology ensures accurate, clinically-proven, and comfortable readings. And with a 90-memory recall with date and time stamp, you can track your blood pressure and pulse progress as your work towards a healthier lifestyle.

The Omron HEM-780 delivers accurate, clinically-proven blood pressure readings in the comfort of your own home.

To take an accurate reading, first position the green marker directly over the artery on the inside of your arm.

Next, place your arm on a table so the cuff is positioned at the same level as your heart.
Instructions for Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitors
There are several easy steps to taking your blood pressure with this monitor. First of all, avoid eating, smoking, and exercising for at least 30 minutes before taking a measurement. Remove tight-fitting clothing from your upper arm, and sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Slide your left arm through the cuff and position the cuff approximately 0.5-inches above the elbow. On the cuff you'll notice a green marker; position this marker directly over the artery on the inside of your arm. Next, secure the cuff with the Velcro material. The cuff should make direct contact with your skin, but you should be able to easily fit your index finger between the cuff and your arm.

Place your arm on a table so that the cuff is positioned at the same level as your heart. Rest comfortably in a relaxed environment for at least 15 minutes prior to taking your blood pressure measurement. Once you feel relaxed, simply press the start button and remain still. The cuff will begin to inflate and numbers will appear on the display as the heart symbol flashes. When the measurement is complete, the cuff will deflate, and your blood pressure and pulse rate will display on the screen. If you need to stop the measurement at any time, simply press the on/off button and the monitor will immediately deflate. And remember, always consult your physician for specific information about your blood pressure.

What is IntelliSense?
The IntelliSense monitor inflates the cuff to the ideal level with each use -- you never have to make any adjustments to select an inflation level. This is especially convenient for hypertensive users and for people with certain arrhythmia or heart disorders because their blood pressure is so likely to fluctuate. The biggest advantage of using the IntelliSense technology is a personalized inflation every time for maximum comfort.

The Importance of Home Blood Pressure Monitoring
Doctors, diabetes educators, physician assistants, nurses, and other healthcare professionals all recommend home blood pressure monitoring for various reasons. Home monitoring provides your healthcare professionals with better information to understand and manage your high blood pressure. Many types of hypertension can only be detected by monitoring your blood pressure at home, including:

  • White-Coat Hypertension: blood pressure reading is high in your doctor's office but lower at home
  • Masked Hypertension: blood pressure reading is low in doctor's office but higher at home
  • Morning Hypertension: blood pressure reading is higher in the morning
Additionally, many factors can affect your blood pressure, including physical exertion, emotional fluctuations, medications, and stress. So having your blood pressure monitored at a pharmacy with an in-store device after you've been shopping or walking around might not provide you with the most accurate measurement. Monitoring your blood pressure at home allows you achieve a relaxed state more easily, and it gives you the flexibility to take your measurements at various times during the day. By keeping track of your home blood pressure readings, you can provide your healthcare professional with a log of your measurements over time. This can help them evaluate the effectiveness or need for medication.

As a primary care physician, I've seen a lot of BP monitors that my patients bring to the office to check for accuracy and other features. This one seems to be the best. The easy to apply cuff, auto inflation, its accuracy, the memory, the averaging feature, the AC converter all make it worth the slightly higher price over other Omrons, which I consider the most accurate brand. Since I too have high blood pressure, I decided to buy one myself!

I work for a major rx chain, have sold many of these models. This one is the best of the omron line. The cuff is awesome, easy to wrap around the arm. We sell this unit for 1oo bucks. I should have bought mine at amazon.

I haven't had the chance to conpare this unit to the readings at the doctors office (taking them at the same time). But I have taken readings at the drug store and then 5 min later taking it at home. It does seem to give true readings. They has never been any really off readings. No wild swings.

It is very easy to use and comes with good instructions and a nice carrying case. Makes it easy to take on vacation with you. AC adapter makes it where you don't have to worry about dead batteries.

I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, but the doctor thought that I was really suffering from 'white coat syndrom', in which points are added to your pressure just being around a doctor. Then I went on Amazon, and found that it had a solid 5-star rating from over 60 customers and decided to buy it. The Amazon price, by the way, was excellent, at least compared with local pharmacy prices.

Bottom line is that it is easy to use, has a memory, keeps an average of the last three readings, and that was all I expected or wanted. (My blood pressure, thankfully, seems lower too.)

I did my review not looking at any other reviews or talking to anybody so I would not be influenced in any way. By the way, I'm amazed at the length of some of the reviews and will be sure to read them later after I write my review.

I do plan to take it with me to the doctor's office next time to make sure it agrees with his machine. I think that is a wise thing to do, though I have no reason to think there will be any variation.

(Follow-up on July 10, 2006: I did take my monitor to the doctor's office, and I'm glad to report that he confirmed that it was accurate compared to his monitor.)

This is a great blood pressure monitor. The display is big and easy to read, it's quiet, and the ComFit cuff is comfortable. I also find the results to be consistent, and they match up very well with my old Omron monitor (HEM-712C). However, it's important to compare any BP monitor to a known measurement. This is my second HEM-780N2 -- the first one always returned measurements that were about 10-15 mm Hg too low. I exchanged it and the second one seems to be working accurately.

Outstanding quality, consistency and accuracy! At the end of the day that is all you can ask from a blood pressure cuff (sphygmomanometer). A few things to bear in mind: In consecutive readings done at the same time, you will see a trend from higher to lower blood pressure as you "learn" to lower your own pressure. Also, your blood pressure at home will be lower than that you obtain at your doctor's office until you learn to overcome the anxiety normally associated with the doctor's office. This is normal and is one of the main reasons to obtain a home blood pressure monitor. Also, your pressure will fluctuate from day to day and even during a blood pressure monitoring session. So don't automatically assume that the gauge is not giving accurate readings! Trust me, it is.

This monitor has been extensively tested against measurements obtained at the doctor's office and has been determined to be as accurate a method of determining blood pressure as you would obtain at the doctor's office - actually, more accurate since the anxiety factor is eliminated.

So if you are looking for the best home blood monitor device on the market look no further. Just made sure and trust it!

I heartily endorse this product.

Just received, put it together and checked BP without even readng the instructions. Compared to a manual reading, accurate with in 6mm hg. Even comes with batteries. Over all a great monitor and one I would recommend for my patients.

(Only 4 stars as it is a little bit expensive...I think keeping my blood pressure under control requires accurate measurements and thus is worth the price)

This is by far the easiest BP tool I've ever used for an individual. The cuff fits my arm (large cuff) and my wife's (small cuff) with one easy to use cuff. Just press the button and presto, you have an accurate reading of BP and Pulse. It is facinating to see how one's BP fluctuates during the day, based on what you are doing and what stress you are under. It also has a memory device , which i have not used yet. I highly recommend this machine.
