5.0 out of 5 stars Best I've seen.
As a primary care physician, I've seen a lot of BP monitors that my patients bring to the office to check for accuracy and other features. This one seems to be the best. The easy to apply cuff, auto inflation, its accuracy, the memory, the averaging feature, the AC converter all make it worth the slightly higher price over other Omrons, which I consider the most...

1.0 out of 5 stars Finicky and grossly inaccurate
This unit started out fine, apparently. However after 5 months of sparse use, it is now grossly inaccurate (about 40% higher on systolic readings, 15% higher on diastolic). My doctor says that the manual-inflate models are a much better bet. While Omron's customer service people admit that this unit is malfunctioning, they won't exchange it for a much-less-expensive...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best I've seen., March 20, 2006
This review is from: Omron HEM-780 Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with ComFit Cuff (Health and Beauty)
As a primary care physician, I've seen a lot of BP monitors that my patients bring to the office to check for accuracy and other features. This one seems to be the best. The easy to apply cuff, auto inflation, its accuracy, the memory, the averaging feature, the AC converter all make it worth the slightly higher price over other Omrons, which I consider the most accurate brand. Since I too have high blood pressure, I decided to buy one myself!

I work for a major rx chain, have sold many of these models. This one is the best of the omron line. The cuff is awesome, easy to wrap around the arm. We sell this unit for 1oo bucks. I should have bought mine at amazon.

I haven't had the chance to conpare this unit to the readings at the doctors office (taking them at the same time). But I have taken readings at the drug store and then 5 min later taking it at home. It does seem to give true readings. They has never been any really off readings. No wild swings.

It is very easy to use and comes with good instructions and a nice carrying case. Makes it easy to take on vacation with you. AC adapter makes it where you don't have to worry about dead batteries.

This unit started out fine, apparently. However after 5 months of sparse use, it is now grossly inaccurate (about 40% higher on systolic readings, 15% higher on diastolic). My doctor says that the manual-inflate models are a much better bet. While Omron's customer service people admit that this unit is malfunctioning, they won't exchange it for a much-less-expensive model and referred me back to Amazon for help in getting a refund. They were quite argumentative on the phone about what they could and couldn't do.

They did offer to replace the cuff, which they said was probably faulty, and only is "good for about a year and a half". That's astounding! Does that mean in order to maintain accuracy, a customer should replace the cuff every 18 months? I would NOT buy this unit again, and wish I'd purchased something simpler and probably more reliable in the first place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy first-time user of blood-pressure monitor, June 15, 2006

This review is from: Omron HEM-780 Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with ComFit Cuff (Health and Beauty)
I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, but the doctor thought that I was really suffering from 'white coat syndrom', in which points are added to your pressure just being around a doctor. Then I went on Amazon, and found that it had a solid 5-star rating from over 60 customers and decided to buy it. The Amazon price, by the way, was excellent, at least compared with local pharmacy prices.

Bottom line is that it is easy to use, has a memory, keeps an average of the last three readings, and that was all I expected or wanted. (My blood pressure, thankfully, seems lower too.)

I did my review not looking at any other reviews or talking to anybody so I would not be influenced in any way. By the way, I'm amazed at the length of some of the reviews and will be sure to read them later after I write my review.

I do plan to take it with me to the doctor's office next time to make sure it agrees with his machine. I think that is a wise thing to do, though I have no reason to think there will be any variation.

(Follow-up on July 10, 2006: I did take my monitor to the doctor's office, and I'm glad to report that he confirmed that it was accurate compared to his monitor.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great BP monitor, December 24, 2005

This is a great blood pressure monitor. The display is big and easy to read, it's quiet, and the ComFit cuff is comfortable. I also find the results to be consistent, and they match up very well with my old Omron monitor (HEM-712C). However, it's important to compare any BP monitor to a known measurement. This is my second HEM-780N2 -- the first one always returned measurements that were about 10-15 mm Hg too low. I exchanged it and the second one seems to be working accurately.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding quality, consistency and accuracy!, November 9, 2006

Outstanding quality, consistency and accuracy! At the end of the day that is all you can ask from a blood pressure cuff (sphygmomanometer). A few things to bear in mind: In consecutive readings done at the same time, you will see a trend from higher to lower blood pressure as you "learn" to lower your own pressure. Also, your blood pressure at home will be lower than that you obtain at your doctor's office until you learn to overcome the anxiety normally associated with the doctor's office. This is normal and is one of the main reasons to obtain a home blood pressure monitor. Also, your pressure will fluctuate from day to day and even during a blood pressure monitoring session. So don't automatically assume that the gauge is not giving accurate readings! Trust me, it is.

This monitor has been extensively tested against measurements obtained at the doctor's office and has been determined to be as accurate a method of determining blood pressure as you would obtain at the doctor's office - actually, more accurate since the anxiety factor is eliminated.

So if you are looking for the best home blood monitor device on the market look no further. Just made sure and trust it!

I heartily endorse this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Accurate and intuitive, March 24, 2006
This review is from: Omron HEM-780 Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with ComFit Cuff (Health and Beauty)
Just received, put it together and checked BP without even readng the instructions. Compared to a manual reading, accurate with in 6mm hg. Even comes with batteries. Over all a great monitor and one I would recommend for my patients.

(Only 4 stars as it is a little bit expensive...I think keeping my blood pressure under control requires accurate measurements and thus is worth the price)

This is by far the easiest BP tool I've ever used for an individual. The cuff fits my arm (large cuff) and my wife's (small cuff) with one easy to use cuff. Just press the button and presto, you have an accurate reading of BP and Pulse. It is facinating to see how one's BP fluctuates during the day, based on what you are doing and what stress you are under. It also has a memory device , which i have not used yet. I highly recommend this machine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good BP Monitor, September 17, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Omron HEM-780 Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with ComFit Cuff (Health and Beauty)
I am quite pleased with this device. I really expected it to be kinda flimsy, but it actually seems quite well made. The spring-loaded cuff is easy to put on and use without help, and comfortable enough. The display is large and clear, and up to 90 readings are stored in memory. It also gives you an average of your last three readings. Power comes from 4 AA batteries (included) or an AC adapter (also included)

I've taken several readings to check its consistency. Readings taken under similar circumstances, close together, appeared to be steady.

My only complaint is the hose could be slightly longer. Overall, I think this is a good tool to have for blood pressure monitoring on a regular basis, which is probably something we all should be doing.
