1.0 out of 5 stars Defective upon first use!, June 22, 2010

This review is from: Omron Manual Inflation Blood Pressure Monitor with Large Cuff (Health and Beauty)
We purchased one of these HEM-422CRLC units and received it back in May 2010.
We used Heart Rate Monitors USA through Amazon. We had no problem with shipment or Heart Rate Monitors USA. We tested the unit upon its' arrival and it continually gave us E or EE messages. We called Omron and they said the cuff wasn't tight enough and walked us through the procedure. It worked about half the time. During continual use it gave E or EE readings for the first 2 or 3 tries and finally would work. So we took it to my doctor and my wifes doctor and the nurses there ran into the same problem. Just to make sure we weren't losing our minds, we took our two other OMRONs, an automatic wrist model #HEM-650 and a manual model # HEM-432C, mainly to make sure they were zeroed in on readings. Both of these latter units worked fine for myself and my wife. The 422 failed to read 75% of the time no matter what we did to try and make it work. (Fresh batteries, tight enough, steady and even pressure on pumping it up, etc...)

I called OMRON again. You can't send this back to Heart Rate Monitors USA after 30 days, which, OK, I can deal with. However Omron wants $8.00 to ship it back for S & H and wants me to insure it to them in case it's damaged or lost. So it'll cost me another $6.90 if I ship it USPS Parcel Post. Forget Priority. By the time it's said and done the to/from shipping cost will be + or - $15.00.
We spent $45.00 on the unit and for the extra expense I think I'll take it apart and fix it myself.

Lesson learned: If you are going to buy a monitor such as this, don't cheap out. Get the better one and call it a day. (By the way the little wrist automatic was a few points more accurate that the manual HEM-432C, which surprised me.)
