This is SUCH an awesome book! My kids love this and read it over and over again. It is informative (for a little kids book) and has cute illustrations. I am so glad such a great book is out for kids about Albert Einstein!

An excellent, fun to read biography about one of our most interesting characters! A great way for students to understand Albert Einstein and then to choose another real person to write about in a similar way! Who knew picture books could be so informative while still being so much fun to read?

This picture book about Albert Einstein provides some great details about his life and about learning and individuality. Einstein, as a young child, spoke later than most children. As a teacher of English language acquisition, I know listening is far more important than speaking for language development and people should never be forced to speak before they are ready. Often people who wait, show more proficiency in language than someone forced to speak. Einstein was challenged school and education so he was not embraced by educators or allowed to teach. He then took an office job which allowed him free time to think. Since education has morphed into this country as a conformist system that praises empty standards and test them with standardized tests, it is important to stop and think about how truly creative people thrive. They don't wear uniforms, make individual choices, and have confidence to be themselves. Interestingly enough, the book ends with a girl, a boy and a dog wearing the same school uniform and looking quite alike. The opposite of the behavior the author just renounced.

My eldest daughter of approximately age 3 loves this text. Being a mathematician, I bought this text as well as The Boy Who Loved Math: The Improbable Life of Paul Erdos. But my very inquisitive daughter loved this text more. And while it breaks my numerical heart to think she may not like mathematics (sniff sniff), this story is very engaging and the artistry is extremely well done. On top of this, she actually asked what else Einstein did during bedtime. I responded by talking about general relativity and she fell asleep. Mission accomplished! So the moral of the story is: book engaging, dad boring.
