Book Description

Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance

Four years ago, Jocelyn Butler left her tragic past behind in the States and started over in Edinburgh. Burying the grief, ignoring her demons, and forging ahead without any real attachments has worked well for her so far but when Joss moves into a fantastic apartment on Dublin Street, her carefully guarded world is shaken to its core by her new roommate’s sexy older brother.

Braden Carmichael is a man who always gets what he wants. And what he wants is Jocelyn in his bed. Knowing how skittish Joss is concerning any kind of relationship, Braden proposes a sexual arrangement that should satisfy the intense attraction between them without it developing into anything ‘more’. An intrigued Jocelyn agrees, completely unprepared for the Scotsman and his single-minded determination to strip the stubborn young woman bare…to the very soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow September 1, 2012

I've read all of Ms. Young's YA books and enjoyed them, so I knew that I would probably enjoy this one too. I didn't realize I would be so blown away by it. It is very much an ADULT book, not for the YA set. Her writing style transitions very well to adult contemporary romance. It was everything the genre should be. Like the previous reviewer, I enjoyed the fact that the female was standoffish and being chased by the male. It was not a light read; It deals with death, loss and some very destructive behavior. The way Ms. Young wove Joss' conversations with her therapist into the story was very effective and a good technique. The relationship between Joss and Braden was perfectly choreographed, though a little focused on sex. I would have liked to see a little more of Braden's emotions. I thought Joss' character, emotions and reactions were well-written and very believable.

3.0 out of 5 stars I wanted to love this book! September 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
However, at the end of the day, I found myself a bit ambivalent about the whole novel at best. It started off well enough but about the half-way point when all Joss and Braden seem to do was have sex while he obviously wanted something more and she tried to act skittish, I found myself becoming bored and uninterested.

If I could sum up this novel best, nothing really happens and maybe that is the biggest issue I had with it. Don't get me wrong, I can understand all the accolades this book is getting and fair play to the author because she has written an amazing love story. I will eventually finish it but I just became a bit put off by the redundancy of it all. This novel could have easily had about a fourth of its content shaved off and been just as good.

Like another reviewer, I couldn't bond with Joss and I didn't really get that much out of Braden either. I don't know if he was supposed to have a bad boy quality because it was all a bit predictable. Multi-millionaire guy who loves to date blondes finds a woman with dirty blonde hair he is so attracted to, he can let go of all the other money grubbers in his life. Well, Joss is independently wealthy (due to an accident that is best found out when one reads the book) and she has the world on her shoulders. She's outwardly cold but extremely vulnerable and THAT is why Braden was attracted to her from the beginning and never let go. There is something about a vulnerable woman that will get a guy every time and her sincerity didn't hurt her either. She was real so I can understand why he would go through all the effort he did to get with her.

This novel's biggest short coming had nothing to do with the book and everything to do with ME. I am in my mid-thirties and I am tired of reading about women in their early twenties. I suppose the clock just stops at twenty-eight and if you haven't found a man by then, too bad so sad. You're day old bread and not wanted. Are women in their thirties the new forties or something or why don't we see novels like this for us women in our thirties who have been there, done that, are probably divorced and hope there is someone special out there for us?

This novel was very enjoyable to me despite all the issues but it follows a very similar theme that is popular right now so like another reviewer said, it was good -- don't get me wrong -- but there was nothing outstanding about it to separate it from the pack of novels about young women in their early twenties ending up with fabulously fit and successful men in their late twenties.

I would strongly recommend though if you are looking for a more serious romantic read and enjoy a little angst with your romance.

Edited to Add: To me, a three star novel is decent and well written but not something I would probably read again. I don't consider it in any way a mark against the author herself and I hope people don't think there is something "wrong" with this book just because in MY opinion, it is a three star novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot and Compelling Romance September 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Samantha brings on the sexy with her first adult romance! Braden is wealthy, attractive, and has a tendency to be a bit of an overbearing ass. Joss is beautiful, sassy, and completely messed up emotionally. Together they make a couple who isn't just hot, but also interesting. I love the way Samantha slowly reveals the details of their past, building her trust with the reader as Braden and Joss built their trust with each other. And the bedroom scenes... *fans self* Any doubts as to whether a YA writer could make an adult novel steamy enough have certainly been laid to rest!
