Editorial Reviews

A master of [the free jazz] tradition. --Nate Chinen, New York Times

Product Description

Bitter folks make bitter music, sad folks the same. During this session
Kidd Jordan talked about overcoming health problems as well as
coming out of a gig and encountering a Ku Klux Klan rally; Warren
Smith talked about going to a sandwich shop in Illinois with some
college friends and being told he couldn t eat inside with the white
folks. This is not political music, but there is a defiance to the playing
that comes out of those experiences. In addition to waving the freak
flag, there is the blues and New Orleans voodoo, and there is a lot of
intelligence, humor, and awareness between the players. The record is
called On Fire for a reason.

Format:Audio CD
I haven't heard this CD yet, but I will soon. I have heard all these great musicians and admire their creative efforts. Kidd Jordan, along with pianist Joel Futterman, bassist William Parker, and drummer Alvin Fielder have just released an artist produced CD of their dynamic performance at September's Guelph Jazz Festival in Toronto. Information and samples can be found on Joel's web site at: [...]. Check it out!
