About the Author

After spending too many years as an industrial engineer, Shannon learned to write from her husband, bestselling author Jim Butcher. She learned writing craft in order to help him with his stories, but found the idea of writing her own too compelling to resist. She lives in Missouri with her husband and son, where conversations at the dinner table are more often about things someone made up than about anything that’s actually happened. Feel free to contact Shannon via her website.

Jessica Andersen is a doctor of molecular genetics, a patent agent, and a professional horse trainer and riding coach. She resides on small farm in eastern Connecticut with her husband and beloved corgis, two-cats and a handful of young horses.
Deidre Knight is a literary agent, mom, wife, novelist, and Southern woman, and proud to answer to all of those titles. After selling hundreds of romance and women’s fiction novels for her clients, she’s delighted to bring her tales of otherworldly adventure to someone other than her own family. She lives in Madison, Georgia.

Customer Reviews

I found three new authors that I wil definately be reading more of... I highly recommend this book!
Don't get me wrong each story had an interesting premise, but unfortunately none of them were executed very well.
Gena Showalter and Shannon Butcher are in my top 5 list of authors and I recommend any book they write.

If you are hunting for just a bit more of your favorite series while waiting for the next installment, this may be the anthology for you. Of the four authors featured here, only headliner Showalter brings us a new world - the rest just take the opportunity to explore side characters or approach their worlds from a slightly different angle. Since I am a fan of all of the series represented here, I liked the connected (but standalone shorts) for Diedre Knight's 'Red' Spartans, Shannon Butcher's Sentinels, and Jessica Andersen's Nightkeepers which all worked as nice little fill-ins to those authors' series.

In the order that I read them:

Crystal Skull by Jessica Andersen ~*~ A woman is drawn to a sacred ruin and uncovers a relic connected to her unknown origins and with the help of a former lover - who has his own secrets - she will find the power that just may save the world ~*~ This Nightkeepers short was a nice little carve out, with different characters not connected to the main group and the pre-existing relationship between the leads made it work in the romance department - it will be interesting to see if Andersen weaves this pair back into the main story line.

The Collector by Shannnon K Butcher ~*~ A Sentinel warrior whose days are numbered seeks an artifact which may be the key to healing a crippled comrade, and instead finds the woman who just may be his own salvation ~*~ I liked this Sentinels short which is set before Living the Nightmare but the romance was really really rushed, forcing the heroine who is 'buttoned-up' and who likes to take things slow to do a rapid about face in order to get to the HEA.

On the Hunt- Anthology
Paranormal Romance - Feb. 1st 2011
4 stars
This anthology is a solid compilation of paranormal romances by 4 popular authors. Each has their own style and there is sure to be a little something every paranormal reader.

Ever Night
In the first story, Gena Showalter introduces readers to a new and dark world. When Rose turn 18, she is suddenly transported to another dimension and discovers she is a dimension walker - a race that can travel to alternate worlds. There she is brought to a powerful and beautiful man named Vasili who binds her to him and warns her that she will always return to this dimension against her will every birthday. He tells her to protect herself and learn to defend herself for her kind is often killed on sight on his world. On her next birthday, Rose returns. But she has used the past year to become more self -sufficient and this fascinates Vasili even more. However, both are natural enemies; will their attraction for each other overcome old prejudices?
-The interplay between the two main characters is slow to start but soon became fun to read. I only wish Rose had been older since her youth seemed a bit unrealistic compared to the mature Vasili, and she (especially in the beginning) seemed out of her depth compared to him. 4 stars

The Collector
One Collector is one of my favorites in this anthology. In this story, Shannon Butcher returns to her world of the Sentinels where each warrior must meet their mate or become evil. Neal Etan is on a mission to find an important artifact to save his friend's life. But instead he discovers his destined mate. The one woman's whose touch relieves the incredible pain he feels every day.

Overall this was ok with some shorts better than others. In no particular order I will give my brief thoughts

Deidre Knight gives us an installment on her demon hunter series featuring the ladies man brother Jamie Angel. Jamie is vocal of his dislike for harboring "demons" in their house for the upcoming wedding of Kate who is a vampire. Kate of course comes with her guardian angel literally. Sunny has been assigned to protect Kate without her knowledge but Jamie discovers her true purpose. This was ok and not important to the overall series. What I liked is that Knight used this as an opportunity to feature and African American heroine. 3 stars

Shannon Butcher offers a story from her sentinel series. neal needs to get an artifact from a collector that could help heal one of his comrades. of course his tree of life is down to a few leaves and its Viviana and her own secret ability that will enable him to release his power safely for she is his soul mate. 3 stars

Gena Showalter took a different approach by bringing something new to the table. Her story is about Walkers/humans who can cross over into another dimension. This occurence starts on the humans 18th bday and they have no idea whats going on because the dimension they cross in to is run by warriors intent on destroying them no questions asked. Rose however stumbles on one of the warrior Kings himself and something about the youthful beauty stays his hand. I REALLY enjoyed this and could see Showalter continuing this in a full length novel featuring the other characters. 4

Jessica Anderson follows her series with Crystal Skull. I have read a couple of the Nightkeepers and the sseries is a hit or miss with me.
