On Liberty was going against some ingrained social biases when it was first delivered over a century ago. Mill spoke out against social classes and for equality of all people regardless of sex, family background, or race. His thoughts still hold true today, bringing up questions of where the limits of government should be. Fresh thoughts for us in a time with more government imposition on our lives than when this text was written.

John Stuart Mill was a visionary when it came to seeing society for what is was and pointing out where it should be headed. He believed in equality of all people and discussed where society fell short and how the damage could be rectified. I purchased several editions looking for one to assign to my Introduction to Political Thought course, and this one came away as the winner.

Very few people have the knowledge or understanding of the different religions of the world than John Stuart Mill. His insight into the common threads and differences cuts through the chase and helped me get an understanding quickly. Excellent book covering the gamut in religious survey.
