We moved into a new house that had an OnQ Structured Wiring Enclosure. The builder ran Cat5 to the locations that we specified, but did not offer a network switch. I wanted an 8-port GB switch that was designed to fit in the enclosure, so I ordered this. It's about 5x more expensive than typical consumer-grade GB switches that you can find, so you would think they would include the power supply. After receiving the product, I reviewed the description on Amazon again and realized that the PS not only was not included, but costs another $16 PLUS another $8 for shipping! I realize that this is a bit of a niche product, but not including the PS is more than a little ridiculous.

This network gigabit switched converted my entire home network to gigabit speeds and it fit in my OnQ cabinet. I would have given it a better rating if it didn't make you separately buy the necessary power supply (that was overpriced from OnQ/Amazon)

Once On-Q gets you locked into their cabinets, they tend to gouge you for everything they can get. While these switches work as expected, I found myself tempted to junk the one installed in my sister's house and go with someone whose component prices aren't a decade out of date.

Used this to correct a poorly-done in-wall Legrand infrastructure wiring job for a client. After tracing runs, properly labeling the wires, terminating the wiring and powering up the switch, the speed of his intranet (not to be confused with internet - intranet is client-to-client/server inside a private network) nearly quadrupled thanks to the switch and the correction of poorly-done to incorrectly-wired LAN segments. It also added a small boost to the internet speed by not having to route traffic though the ISR router leg when going client-to-client, thus freeing up what little DSL bandwidth was available for traffic needing internet access.

Sturdy unit, well-made for what it is. Heat does not seem to be a particular issue, though it is not the coolest switch I have used. Good, positive engagement of locking lugs, excellent throughput and tested to full 1Gb line traffic bandwidth without problem on five clients and a server. There is one port unused for future expansion. Price for performance is good, if not exceptional. If you have an in-wall infrastructure wiring box, I highly recommend this switch for LAN management.

Yes, this product is pricey and you must order the power supply separately. But it does a good job and meets all its claims.

I bought mine about 18 months ago and it has worked well the whole time. It's mounted up in the attic, where it gets VERY hot during the summer. This is the second summer and it's still going strong. I don't think your average switch from BestBuy would have lasted this long. The On-Q switch is rated 0-50 degrees C.

We bought a 15 year old house and the phone wiring was a goofy daisy-chained MESS. So we installed an On-Q panel for both voice and Cat-6 data. Very happy. I'm now buying another DA1008 to expand the number of ports.
