Product Description

"Authentic, uplifting Americana" --TIME
"Stories that deserved to be told" --The Washington Post
Watching it is a treat" --The New York Times

The beloved Emmy®-winning series that began on the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite

For 20 years beginning in 1967, Charles Kuralt wandered America’s byways in search of the unusual and the overlooked. He and his small crew logged more than a million miles and wore out six motor homes. For his homespun vignettes of everyday life, Kuralt won an Emmy® and three Peabody Awards and became a household name.

Kindhearted, avuncular, and unquenchably curious, Kuralt pulled off the road for all sorts of people: horse traders and hex-sign painters, teachers and tinkerers, singing mailmen and steamboat captains, sociable folks and loners (like the man who lived on a glacier in the shadow of Mt. McKinley). By shining a spotlight on those who had gone unnoticed, Kuralt revealed that each of us is noteworthy.

Time capsules of a bygone era, these gentle stories are reminders of what makes America great. They remain deeply meaningful, poignant, and truthful today.

SET 3 review: Kuralt spent 20 years perfecting what he did. He is just like you and me, and presents interesting stories about people like us. Stories of the back roads, roads less traveled. Nothing earth shattering, just fun, interesting, and out of the ordinary for common folk. It's down-home fun viewing. It is timeless, a piece of American history as inviting as any history book--MORE SO. This third set is simply more of the magic that this man created and aired for 2 decades (late 60s to early 80s). Good for all ages. Set 3 comes with SUBTITLES.

14 EPISODES, that's 57 stories for SET 3. Almost 5 hours worth of delight. Highly recommended, as is Set one and two. All educational as well as entertaining. History on film.
Episode 1-Hex-Sign Painter, Missouri, High-School Plane, Christmas Tree, Alaskan Glacier Priest
2-Horse Trader, Singing Mailman, Butterflies, Sorghum Making, Minnesota
3-North Woods Guide, Tombstones, Steam Calliope, Huck Finn, Utah
4-Dakota Farmer, Goose Lady, Oldest Park Ranger, Pennsylvania
5-Bell ringers, Unicycle School, National Anthem, Mountains
6-Cowbells, The Ice Meister, Gas Stations, Secretariat
7-Udall, The School Teacher, Prospector, Balloons
8-July 4th, Pioneer Grave, Pipe Organs, Kuralt's Roots
9-Photo Family, Skill Olympics, Fire Hydrants, Free Doctors
10-Wisdomkeepers, The Land, Dessie Odom
11-Old Men and the Sea, Plank Road, Ellis Island
12-Love Train, Worm Grunting, Elephants, Heroes of `41
13-History of Norway, Hot-Dog Man, Donkey-Cart Man, The Eyelid Alarm, Running Water
14-Loving Country, TX; Sewer Art; Last Lighthouse
All discs have updates on some stories as well as a 55 min interview with Kuralt's camerman.

Thanks to 'Doc' for his review above which contains all the particulars for volume 3 of 'On The Road'.

I have reviewed the other 2 volumes and don't have much new to say, I guess, but I can not resist any opportunity to encourage others to watch Charles Kuralt. The one new thing I would say is that unlike most dvd sets, volume 3 is going to be just as good as the other volumes. The weak material has not been saved for last because the stories of America were endless as was Kuralts' knack for telling them. The quality on these volumes is interchangable.

Every generation ought to have a Charles Kuralt. While others record the dates and events of history and embed their opinions and politics in those histories, there should be someone just taking the everyday pictures of actual life. These stories make the dates and events seem much more significant. These are stories of America you can shake hands with and every generation ought to have a Kuralt to tell them.

Charles Kuralt was, in his lifetime, a staple of Sunday morning television viewing. His folksy programs took us all over America, where we met the most amazing and interesting people. This DVD contains a large collection of those marvelous shows. Enthralling, entertaining - this was what we watched on TV decades ago, and the people we see, now all long gone, are what America was all about. They possess the sort of energy, creativity and quirkiness America was built on. I highly recommend this DVD.

I have always been a Charles Kuralt fan. Loved the first two dvds but almost
seems like they have used up the best ones. Still great but not a good as
1 & 2. I have the shows on VHS tapes and some of the ones I had looked forward
to having on dvd have not shown up
The other thing, I wish the producers would do is to eliminite the long intro
between segments. Very boring and repetative. Should just have the intro at the
beginning of each disc.

I grew up with "On the Road with Charles Kuralt" and I give him full credit for my love of traveling around the country. He is a true story teller, second to none. If you have never listened to a good story teller then start here.

This is the third in the series. Like them all. Takes you back to another time. Some very nice places were shown. Would have liked to see more of a few of them
