Thayer Soule was likely the finest producer, cinematographer, and narrator of filmed travelogs. He began as a member of Burton Holmes team (one of the originators of travelogs after the motion picture was invented), and went on to bring the sights of the world to millions. He also served in the armed forces during WWII, creating a film unit for the U.S. Marines during their Pacific battles. Much of that footage was released in theatrical newsreels and even some features. After the war, Mr. Soule became the Dean of the travelog producers and presenters. Those presentations inspired millions of people to travel the world themselves when the jet plane made international adventures affordable to all of us.
