I ordered this On Stage Stand desk because I needed to replace an Ikea desk that I had gotten rid of as my production desk. Nothing was wrong with my old desk, other than that the Allen wrench screws had worn out over time with all the set ups and take downs associated with me moving all the time. It was time for me to get a desk better suited for audio/video production anyway yet I didn't have an arm and a leg of funds to get it with, neither. While looking for inexpensive alternatives to some of the more popular and pricey products out there, I happened upon On Stage Stands. I read the reviews, which seemed kinda mixed; some good, some bad but for the most part it seemed to even out as far as overall perception goes. I really needed a desk and nothing other than going back it Ikea and looking for the same desk I had before were my options, so I took a chance on this product. Some of the complaints I saw were about it not being real wood (its cheap, so what... so long as its sturdy I'm good, not trying to impress anyone here) and something about the holes not lining up (I've got tools... if its a problem, I can fix that).

The only problem that I encountered was I guess the handling of the desk. One of the corners seemed a little dented (lending credit to the complaint about it not being real wood) but it wasn't bad enough that I couldn't just flip it another way and be fine with it. So in a nutshell, I'm pleased with it so far. My last desk lasted me about 6-7 years pretty much, with moving every couple years which isn't that bad. We'll see how this one holds up over time. Set up was fairly easy, I don't know what everyone was complaining about. But you know what? In the end, you get what you pay for... I chose a cheap desk but for the money you pay, I think its a great product.

Putting together the metal frame was fairly easy. However, the wooden pieces didn't connect properly to the metal frame. There are pre-made spots where you are supposed to screw the screws in. Unfortunately, the spots don't properly align to the metal frame. Additionally, these spots are not sufficiently drilled making it difficult to screw the screws in. You almost need a power drill to make your own holes. Not acceptable for something that you are given the impression is easy to put together.

None of the pieces (metal frame or wood pieces) were labeled so you had to figure out what went where yourself. The parts (bolts and screws) came in a bag and some of them were labeled on the outside of the bag but not all of them. They used little stickers on different spots of the bag to identify what was what (part A, part B, etc). Unfortunately, some of these stickers fell off the bag so it wasn't always clear what was what. Labeling the parts (screws, bolts) themselves would've made more sense.

Some of the vinyl covering that is over the wood fell off when I put some of the bolts in through the pre-made holes. This was on the underside but still not acceptable.

Additionally, it was not clear how to put the keyboard sliding mechanism together. Very frustrating and would've probably made more sense if it was already put together. It's cheaply made. When I finally had it together on the underside of the main base, it fell of the metal rail. The metal rail is already pre-attached to the boards so this should not happen.

The directions aren't clear or accurate. They could have been more detailed and step-by-step. I am highly unsatisfied with this unit. I have an On Stage stand for my MC-909 and it's much better designed. That's why I elected to buy this workstation. However, this is a major disappointment. Finally, after putting it all together, the workstation seems very high if you're sitting down. Almost too high.

This table was simple to put together, its kind of feels like its all just contact papered over though. the table looks like finished wood in the picture, but its not as good as that. Still, it's not a terrible surface. I have a dual monitor setup on it with my TV on the top rack, and it all sets alright. The only wobble i get is when i'm typing super fast, but i blame my TVs base for that mostly. I got a dual arm stand, and had to chop a good portion of it off to get it to mount my monitors, and even then its still a little awkward, but its still better than having them both on their stands. I wish it were maybe a good half foot or so taller, but for the price i think this is a pretty good desk.

Edit May: I have had this for a very shrot time, and already the rails for the keyboard tray have warped and are coming apart. I plan on calling on stage about this to see if they will send me better rails, failing that I plan on getting better rails myself. But this is unacceptable. These should not be warping like this at all. I might just get a board and screw it into place.

Edit July: The keyboard try finally broke on me. I ended up going to lowes and buying a 36x16x1 inch board and sticking some heavy duty rails on it, and then attaching that to some 2x6x18s, and BAM, super awesome heavy duty tray that can fit my keyboard and mouse w/ mousepad. Just a heads up to anyone who is worried about it. I feel like it was pretty easy to sink the screws all the way through the main desk area, so be careful if you undertake my modification to this desk.
