Most incense is made from Sandalwood. It is no wonder that when you smell the beads on this Mala that it smells of incense. It came in a very nice little bag. I was very happy with the string used to hold it together. It gives a little and this will add life to your beads. There are 108 beads on a traditional Mala with 6 small ones on the hanging pieces.

    On a side note:
There is a Buddhist swastika made from jade below the knot. It is small and worth mentioning for people that may be ignorant of this symbol in Buddhism being used centuries before Germany used it.

Overall this is a very nice Mala, the quality and materials should have this last you for many years.

Thank you for reading my little review.

As a new buddhist, I needed a mala that was frugal and durable for daily use. This mala is perfect! The cord is elastic and very strong, the beads themselves are nicely smoothed sandalwood with a pleasant aroma, and the guru bead is beautifully adorned. A lovely set of prayer beads.

I am so pleased! This mala is beautiful! If I only knew, before I had bought a much more expensive mala but it can't compare to this one. It came in with this nice little beautiful present bag; included.

Not only are these beads NOT sandalwood, they aren't made of wood at all. They are plastic. I'm an experienced beader of several decades, and I knew immediately these were plastic. The edges have bits of plastic stuck to them from drilling, I scraped off these bits and, sure enough, they melted and stank like plastic when I applied heat. The company was patronizing and argued with me at length, trying to convince me I was mistaken. Eventually they gave me a refund.
Do not be fooled by these. They are PLASTIC with cheap fragrance sprayed on them to make you think they are sandalwood.

Someone I know purchased this mala and then brought it to me to show me and ask what I thought. So....

We do not refer to our malas as necklaces. It's also clear it is not Tibetan, but Chinese. The writing is probably Mandarin, but it is not Tibetan nor Sanskrit. The tassel that hangs down from the Guru Bead is a 'lucky' Chinese Knot - one you often see hung outside homes and is more associated with Taoism than Buddhism. There are good malas out there made by Tibetans in exile and Buddhist organizations and are very good prices. You get what you pay for. There's a short book written and available here on Amazon, as a Kindle Book, A Garland of Advice: Special Instructions on How to Bless a Mala and General Advice for Recitation Practice by Zurmang Gharwang Rinpoche. You do not want to accumulate any 'negative' karma by using malas wrong or the wrong malas. Sandalwood does make a good mala but this one is suspect. Certain seeds and precious metals and stone make good malas too. Malas of coral for example, are very good. Bodhi seed malas of course are very good as the Buddha attained complete enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree.

If one looks further they will find this comes from a company in China (no surprise its so cheap). Given the history between China and Tibet one might wish to look for a product made somewhere else. Main reason for one star. Country of origin needs to be displayed for all products.

Not what you would expect. This Mala is not what you want, if you want it for meditation purposes. It is short and too tiny to pass a bead at a time through your fingers when you meditate. The picture you see is deceiving. If you roll this mala around as the picture shows, it fits in the palm of your hand. Simply too small. It ships from Singapore ! I am disappointed by the description of this product. It should be shown worn around the neck to give the buyer a real view of its size.

I Love, LOVE LOVE, these mala beads (or prayer beads). They are gorgeous and they smell heavenly of sandalwood, I've been using them for a week and the smell is amazing as the first day. I have to say that i instantly put them on as a necklace, even though I consciously bought them as meditation beads. Something about these beads gives me immediate peace and relaxation, (and if you knew me, you'd know that's not easy to achieve ;)). I have been wearing them as necklace, putting them next to my yoga mat when I practice, next to my bed when I sleep and just feeling and touching them. My grandfather had a similar set of prayer beads, smaller, and I remember so well, even thought it must have been 30+ years ago, watching him move his hands through each bead, one at a time, as a meditative prayer act, and perhaps that's why these beads are so special.
As for quality, they seem top notch, just beautiful and identical to the picture, and beyond gorgeous. I can't believe the price given what I received. LOVE these beads.
