Every detail associated with this book is perfection. From the brief introductory and closing writings Nick Brandt incorporated into the material, to the fascinating way the animals stare back at the reader - it is quite simply the most brilliant piece of art I am privileged to own. Each picture speaks with an aura of magical nobility. A fantastic tribute to these creatures...

My book is proudly displayed in my living room on a book stand - it is worth every single penny!! A true piece of art. If ever I was shipped to a deserted island, I would take my husband, my dog, and this book with me!! That's how great this book is!!!

A work of art! I was introduced to Nick Brandt's photography through his first book, "On This Earth". After seeing this book, I have to say that "On This Earth" doesn't even come close to the quality of printing in this book. The prints really capture the feel of Nick Brandt's giant, framed prints. Even the book's construction is of a higher quality...the cloth binding definitely sets it apart. This book is larger than his previous ones, so the images are immediately more arresting. I'm also pleased that Amazon's price is so low...before, you could only buy this book from galleries at a more costly price.

This compilation of the best Nick Brandt photographs from his two previous books, On This Earth and A Shadow Falls, is gorgeous, and worth the substantial prince increase over its predecessors.

The binding is much higher quality, and the tipped-in cover plate makes it worth of display.

The paper and printing are also much higher quality. The tones of each print are much more subtle and detailed. If you wanted to, you could slice this book up and frame the prints.

Finally, the book is large. 15" x 13" doesn't sound substantially larger than his previous books, but, side by side, this book contains prints nearly twice as large. The size increase really does these beautiful prints justice.

If you like photography of any kind, this is definitely worth purchasing. You would be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful book of photographs for under $100. Even at the $125 that galleries charge, this book is well worth it.

This is one of the great books of photography - period! The photos themselves are unique (not a word I use lightly) in style, taken not with a telephoto lens but with normal lenses which mean that Brandt had to be very close to these wild and dangerous animals. The poses captured are majestic, giving us a rare feeling for the power and soul of the animals. The printing and book production are superb, up there with (or surpassing) the best of Salgado's monographs but with a very different tonality. The book is big, and probably won't fit on most bookshelves, but it deserves to be out on display. If you can afford it, and if you love photography and animals, buy this book!

As a mixed media artist, I collect photography books for my research and pleasure. I read somewhere that the new batch would not be out till later in 2014, I decided to search the web and was lucky enough to find one at comparable price. In this particular genre, in last few years I've gotten David Gulden's, THE CENTER CANNOT HOLD, and Gregory Colbert's, ASHES AND SNOW. Though these are great, I find that Nick Brand's book takes you to a whole new arena. This book is a masterpiece. Portraits of these majestic creatures are spell bounding, clearly expressing their individuality and harmony with their surrounding. None of which could not have been possible without Brand's patience, artistry and love for these animals. Brandt's image composition shows his technical and artistic talent as well as his deep concerns for the future welfare of these vanishing creatures.

This is a large book, with canvas-type hardcover, simply, gorgeous. The paper and image quality is first rate. Without hesitation, I would include this book as one of my all time favorite. I highly recommend it!

A great book we had seen at a game lodge in Namibia, the animals and magnificent scenery are a fantastic reminder of our visits to Africa. It was great to have a copy of the book of our own.

There is nothing so Beautiful out there right now. It is extremely large with the most spectacular photographs. I wish there were 10 stars. This a exactly what I expect of a photography book on the 21st century

More About the Author

Nick Brandt photographs exclusively in Africa, one of his goals being to record an elegy and last testament to the wild animals and natural world there before they are lost forever at the hands of man.

In the 12 years from 2001-2012, he worked on a trilogy of photographic essays, charting this disappearing world. The title of the three books form one consecutive sentence:
On This Earth, A Shadow Falls, Across The Ravaged Land."

Brandt has had multiple solo gallery and museum shows around the world, including in New York, London, Berlin, Stockholm, Paris and Los Angeles.
Born and raised in England, he now lives in the southern Californian mountains.

He is co-founder of Big Life Foundation, fighting to protect the animals of a large area of Kenya and Tanzania.
