5.0 out of 5 stars this is not a bike lock, it is a seat leash...read below
These other two reviewers could not be more wrong. One end of the cable is meant to go underneath the saddle and then passed through the loop on the other side of the cable. This creates a noose around your seat. Then, you take the loop on the long end and secure it on a U lock. For those of us that live in a city and have nice seats this a great device for making sure...

3.0 out of 5 stars Very short lock
This lock is way too short for any use with a bike. Also it is so thin that it could easily be snipped with some box cutters. Only use I could see for it is maybe locking the seat onto the frame.

On the packaging it reads, "...prevents theft of quick-release seats".

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great for its intended use....as a saddle cable, February 3, 2009

I bike to a light rail station in greater Los Angeles every day where I lock up my bike and take the train to work. A few years ago I purchased a very cheap used bike -- the type no one should wish to steal -- for this purpose. Even though the cheap bike had a junk saddle (and not even quick release!), some punk twisted the seat and post back and forth until the post popped out of the seat tube, then ripped it off. I've since noticed several other bikes locked up at my stop with missing saddles and seat posts. I suppose that ripping off someone's junk saddle and post must really inspire a great deal of pleasure in some people.

I've since purchased a new, nicer bike that I use for that portion of my commute. My new bike's saddle is, once again, not quick release, but I purchased this cable anyway to spare me the pain of biking home without a saddle and having to shop for a new one. I use it in combination with the Kryptonite New York Fuhgettaboutit U-Lock and another thicker cable lock to secure both wheels. Obviously this cable is not intended to secure an entire bike as other reviewers have suggested. However, it does work great for keeping your saddle connected to your bike. So far I've had no problems. I'll update this review if that ever changes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for securing a seat, but measure the length carefully, January 13, 2011

On a cruiser or female bikes with sloping upper frame this cable may be too short to reach the underside of the seat, which is how you need to secure it (you need to unscrew the seat from the seatpost to attach it). So make sure you measure the necessary distance and have the right tools (most likely an allen wrench/hex key.) It was barely, barely long enough for my cruiser.

I use this, along with a cheap luggage combo lock, to secure my seat and a wedge pack to my bike. It barely fits but does what I want it to do. I realize it's not super secure but it's mostly intended to prevent opportunistic theft.

i use this to secure my saddle to my bike frame. i wrap it around tightly and secure the loop to my pinhead seatpost bolt. its a pretty thin cable, but i think its just meant as a quick deterrence for scumbag thieves. my previous saddle was stolen, so every little bit helps

THIS IS A GOOD OPTION IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH LEAVING YOUR BIKE OUTDOORS AND DONT WANT TO LOSE YOUR SEATPOST OR SEAT ESPECIALLY IF YOU CUSTOMIZED YOUR BIKE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great as a helmet lock, January 18, 2012

I use this to lock my motorcycle helmet to my motorcycle when I go out. It is much more convinient than putting the helmet stap rings through the helmet lock, and more secure too. I'm sure someone with bolt cutters could get through it, but for casual protection I feel good about it.

TINY BUT STRONG APPEARED LARGER THAN IT REALLY IS BUT I WANTED TO LOOP A FEW BAGS TOGETHER SUCH AS A DUFFLE AND A SHOULDER BAG SO GOOD FOR THAT PURPOSE.

This was very lightweight and useful for my Europe trip. I wouldn't trust it with my $350 bike, but was useful for locking up my locker in hostel dorm rooms.

This item is exactly as described and pictured, except the loop on one end is smaller than the loop on the other.

This is not a bike lock. Only a fool would use this to lock their bike.
