The mechanism to hold the lock onto the bike frame is flimsy and does not work well.

Looking at the bikes I park next to, I feel safe leaving my bike there with this lock.
Brian Kerth
Seems like a good lock, the barrel is much fatter then my older Onguard Bulldog Mini?

My previous model OnGuard broke after almost 4 years of heavy usage.
(May be earlier, since the internal parts fell apart after the yellow cap fell off)

Pros: just the right size (see the bottom of this comment)

Improvements: yellow caps are more solid, made of hard plastic

Changes: got heavier (but not much and acceptable assuming the hardened security)

Cons: yes, you have to precisely put the parts together in order to turn the key and lock it.

Here are three tricks:
1) always make sure that the key is turned completely to the "Open" position (it's a bit hard when you have it on the same chain with other keys)
2) connect the parts with the same motion and effort as some use for assembling the weapon after cleaning and lubricating (Click)
3) if the key is not turning, follow 1), pull the parts 1-2mm apart, tilt a little and press them together firmly (Clack).

google for "Sheldon Brown locking your bike" to check the best use of this lock.

This is my 2nd Bulldog U-Lock and I really enjoy using them. You are given 4 thin keys and one beefier key with an integrate light.

I'm using these locks for my commuting bikes.

Nice hefty lock, size just right for my small frame bike. Cable is 4 feet, not inches. Good value. Fits fine without too much slack around bike and pole. Cable works for extra security when needed. Frame mount holds nicely - once screws are tightened well.

Works for the quick lock up when going inside to pick something up or grab a bite to eat but i wouldn't use overnight.

I just got a new bike and had to make sure it was locked up so I could sleep at night. This lock seems like its plenty strong and comes with a cable.

Good quality lock, but it's so small that i have to use the cable every time. There's no clean way to carry the cable around, so be prepared to wrap it around your frame and have it bump you in the leg while you're riding.

The mechanism to hold the lock onto the bike frame is flimsy and does not work well.

The keyhole does not accept the key well and makes it difficult to lock and unlock.

Within the first few weeks the lock began to resist the key. It seems the key made it past the first few locking mechanisms then the last locking mechanism would resist it. In the first few weeks I used the lock at most 5 or 6 times, never exposed it to rain, snow, etc, and to my recollection it never took a severe knock or fall. Yet 1 month later the lock takes at least half an hour of jimmying the key around until the key passes all the locking mechanisms in the right order. Not preferred when you are trying to get to class or work in 15 minutes but end up late due to a lock problem.

I took a couple steps to try to solve the problem. I tried WD40, and general lock lubricants and nothing helped. It may have been a defect and I will try to contact OnGuard but its not what I expected from a generally reputable company.
