Don't buy these for long term lockups. Honestly don't ride a bike worth more than a few hundred for long term lockup. There are several bicycles at the L station (chicago elevated train) near me that are nothing but frames now. Ever single piece of the bike was scavenged off the bikes and this is a "nicer area" where if someone saw someone else doing this they would call the police. No joke there are areas that if someone saw someone else trying to steel parts off a bike they would run up and try to get parts for themselves. Not a joke just watch bait car when they do Chicago. If someone leaves an unlocked car in a bad neighborhood multiple people go running towards it from all directions and jump in and start trying to be the first to find something valuable.

Anyways... what I am trying to get at is obviously if someone wants your bike they will either get it or destroy it in the process. So the locking skewers that work are honestly no better than these since if they have 30 minutes to work at your bike they will get it or destroy it. If they only have 1-5 minutes before someone notices I doubt they will just happen to know how to defeat these and grab your wheel before someone notices.

I'm still going to buy the ones that require a key and have no grip for pliers on the other side. I'll put the Zefals that I bought on my really expensive bike that I rarely ever leave locked up.

Bought these hoping they would provide additional security for my road bike. I cannot use the seat skewer as the skewer size is too large. The springs on the front and rear skewers are terrible, if you try to tighten these for a secure fit you'll break the springs. Also, in order to set the lock, you have to close the lever in an unnatural position instead of allowing it to follow the contours of the bike frame. For example, on the front wheel, if you set the lever to follow up your front forks, it will not be locked and on your back wheel, if you set the lever to follow along your chainstay, it will be set in the unlocked position - not exactly the security you're paying for $30+ for.

Also, the skewer cap opposite the side of the lever on the rear skewer is too large for quick releasing your back wheel if you need to change the tube. You have to release the lever and then unscrew the cap to clear the derailleur. I guess they can make claim that it's a "feature" that buys more time when someone is attempting to steal your bike or just steal your wheelset, but I find it more of a waste of my time than a benefit to save my wheels.

I'm glad I got this as a gift from a colleague instead of purchasing it for myself. Glad to have my original skewers back on my bike.

But these on my madone and can say I'll be buying a few more sets. Ok these are not be all end all antitheft, they are easily defeated but they are frustrating, they work and do what I want. I have the them for long rides when I need to stop convenience store for a little added protection with the cable lock. If they want your bike that bad carry a cell phone. Little bit more weight but I couldn't keep up with the back of the peloton no matter how much gogo juice you pump me full of!
