3.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced, wrong description, April 25, 2010
This review is from: Bluephire - Blue Laser Pointer (Electronics)
This laser is ridiculously overpriced for the spec. This blue laser pointer (the exact model) can be found at many other stores for less than half the price shown here. It's a CNI GLP-473nm blue pen which goes under many different names from resellers (e.g. "Aquarius" or "BluePhire" in this case), and sell for far less than the one shown here, especially considering the unbelievably overpriced shipping--far more than you'd pay even direct from China. Furthermore, the specs stated here are very vague and probably not even tested: the < 5mW could imply that you receive the lowest-end model of this blue laser (0.5-2mW) instead of the 3mW-5mW variety which you should receive for less than half this ridiculous price. The mW rating is how much power is outputted, i.e. the brightness; you'll want it as bright as you can get it within legal limits. There is also no mention of a warranty, which ought to be at least 6 months.

The description is also incorrect. HD storage (e.g. BluRay) uses 405nm (violet) diode lasers, not the DPSS 473nm (blue) lasers found in this pointer. The blue (473nm) is actually "rarer" but can suffer from instability and overheating (don't run these lasers for long bursts) just like green lasers.

I gave this product 3 stars because they are nice pointers and they have a great color and appearance, as well as build. However, for this particular product, don't get rooked into an overpriced deal when you could get something much better for much less.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average performance at and fantastic price, May 14, 2010

This review is from: Bluephire - Blue Laser Pointer (Electronics)
The company, provided me with one of these for a presentation some some weeks ago and it wound up forgotten in bottom of my backpack. When my admin asked for it to be returned I told her I did not recall what had happened to it and I would replace it. Thank Heavens for my kids rifling though my back pack for change found it.

I've used lots of pen lasers for presentations. There is usually one awaiting me on the lectern. This one performs on average but also makes for a great hand warmer for when you're giving an outdoors presenation in Prudhoe Bay. Given the price from this vendor, I probably have the only one they ever sold.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad Purchase in any case., August 31, 2010
This review is from: Bluephire - Blue Laser Pointer (Electronics)
(Did not Purchase Nor will I EVER!!) I did some research on lasers of this rating. The highest value of a 473nm, <5mW Class IIIa Laser is no more than 300$ for the Finest of crafted quality by a legit Laser Production Company(with a warranty). There is no Excuse for 800$ and 100$ shipping. For this Price I would expect a Laser that could cut things with ease, something 5mW is not even close to doing. (Granted anything that powerful would not be sold to the public.) So Please viewers do not get fooled by this 900$ Laser. If you want fun look around at the 20-50$ Lasers. I bought some from HDE Storefront on Amazon a Violet and Green 30mW for like barely 15$ and they are Awesome! The green beam is visible at night in my house and even more so outside, appears to reach the stars! Hope this helps people avoid an expensive mistake.
