5.0 out of 5 stars Nope, Once an Angel is not a rip-off
Puh-leeze. "Once an Angel" was the first book I ever read by Teresa Medeiros, and to this day, it's *still* the best book I've read by her. The characters are charming, the plot is witty and full of humor, and the villians are well, villians. I find nothing ripped off from anywhere - Teresa weaved a great story together and made the story fast-paced and...

To this day, the image of Justin sitting at the piano playing at a God-awful hour of the night, reminding Emily that she owes him a dance has stayed with me. When a writer can do that for a reader, I know she's done a good job, and it's a good job well done. I have been a devoted fan ever since.

If you like a good romance with humor, adventure, likeable characters, and a good setting, this book is for you. :) I'm eagerly awaiting her next book which can't be released soon enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Teresa Medeiros novel, July 30, 1999
By A Customer
I have read a few romances by Teresa Medeiros but Once An Angel had to be my all-time favorite. Medeiros did a fantastic job developing the charaters. I felt I knew Justin and Emily from the detailed and poignant way they were described. Emily's personality had me rolling on the ground with laughter. Justin was a real stud to the extent. The best moment (and one of the funniest, I say "one" because there were many)was the opera scene when Justin flies into a fit of rage and makes a huge scene. Also, the chemistry between Justin and Emily was perfectly conveyed and I think I even felt the sparks between them! This story has all the great elements: humor, passion, wit, loss, anguish and happiness. I recommend Once An Angel to anyone who wants to read a fantastic book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lovely Tribute, Not a Rip Off, February 25, 2000
By A Customer
This is one of my favorite Madeiros books. I've read in several interviews that she meant the book to be a "tribute" to her all-time favorite children's classic, A LITTLE PRINCESS by Frances Hodgson Burnett, but with a romance slant that adults could enjoy. She succeeded beautifully, creating a modern romance classic that is just as moving as the original.

3.0 out of 5 stars good book, August 18, 2002
I have always enjoyed this authors book but this one was a bit of a struggle to get through. It was a good story and had a good plot but I had to push myself to get back into the story. It was well written but I found it didn't have as much of the humor that I love in her books.

The story starts off in 1865 in New Zealand where the hero Justin Connor finds his best friend dying and pledges to take care of his little girl. He believes her to be a very little girl but in reality she is young lady who is now faced with the death of her father and the abandoment of her ward Justin Connor. Emily soon grows up and finds herself on a boat in New Zealand searching for her ward. She hates him because of his selfishness and has vowed revenge. She is thrown overboard and washes up on the shore only to be found by Justin. Justin has no idea that she is his ward and finds himself strongly drawn to her. He is a man haunted by the past and she is a bright star showing him that he has a future.

Soon the local changes to England where Justin finally finds out that Emily is his ward. Now he has to contend with more guilt over how he treated his ward and his feelings of love and passion for his Emily. Emily doesn't make it easy for him and we get to witness some funny moments while she torments him.

This story has some exciting twists to it and I enjoyed the banter between the characters. I look forwad to reading others by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST LOVE STORY EVER!!!!!!, October 14, 2004
I have to say this is not my best author, but the last 3 books I've read just keep getting better & BETTER!!!.. I love Julia Quinn and other regency romanc authors, but none of their books could beat this ONE BY FAR! I NEVER wanted this book to end. A love story from the start. It was soooo sad and yet captivating with soooo much Passion and Love with the characters. Emily had such a horrible 7 years of Hell, but I would gladly go through what she did, to finally end up with a Love that can only truly be blessed from the HEAVENS above. That person who wrote the review about this story being sick and about a daddy. Well I can asure you the author did maintain a lot of dignity with this book. Besides you pay attention to the book you'll notice that Justin was younger than Emily's father. If the father was 20yrs older than her and justin about 5 or 6, then that would mean he's only 14 or 15 yrs older. I know a lot of women who are married to older men including my mother. I TRULY LOVE THIS BOOK!. I'm just sad that now I have to look for a book to even try to hold it's own to this one. Out of all the books I've ever read in my lifetime and that's been a LOT. This was is my FAVORITE!! I would gladly pay literally $100 dollars for a book that only cost me 4 bucks!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Angel of a Novel, March 21, 2003
By A Customer
.
The story of Emily and Justin was so poignant and touching. I found myself falling in love with Justin from the first moment he appeared in print. What an absolutely delicious man. The plot was ripe with chemistry and sexual tension and I could not bear to put it down for even an instant. This book is a rare treasure and does not disappoint. One of my all time favourites.

I adore Teresa Medeiros and will purchase anything so long as her name is on the cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful story filled with love, adventure & humor., January 3, 1998
By A Customer
Teresa is one of my favorite authors. This book is one of her best. I re-read it again yesterday & laughed until I cried during the lobster caper. Teresa writes so you are drawn into the characters, you can't wait to turn the page & see what happens next. Her sense of humor shines through in each of her books. They are a delight to savor! She has written many books - but they are all so different, not the same old story re-written with a slight variation. When you look at each of her books you realize the work & creativity that goes into each to make them all something different & special. That effort does not go un-appreciated! Thank you Teresa - keep up the awesome work! I continually scour the book stores waiting for your next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much More than A Romance, September 29, 2001
By
LeiLani Mussell (Payette, Idaho USA) - See all my reviews
This may be my favorite Theresa Medeiros story. The characters in this book are larger than life and when the story is finished, you want to keep visiting with your 'friends'.

The story covers all the range of emotions; laughter, tears, anticipation, fear, etc.

The humor is exceptional and is perhaps the best in this novel over any of her others which I have read so far. It is delightful to be reading and burst out laughing at some
unexpected surprise.

There are some uncomfortable edgy scenes that fill you with dread. There are also very graphic sensual scenes which modest readers would be uncomfortable reading.

But the book is so well developed that it is more than just a romance. It is an experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting, Funny & Passionate, November 3, 1999
By A Customer
My sister gave me this book to read and I read it in two days. Teresa Meideros stories really draw me in with her sense of humor. Emily is so funny, naughty and very unpredictable. Justin's fits of jealousy make him very uncivilized in such a civilized society. The chemistry between the two of them is electric. From New Zealand to England, I loved how this story unfolded.

ONCE AN ANGEL was the first book I ever read by Teresa Medeiros. She is a master of her craft. An example: read each of the chapter headings as they are. They form a letter that's connected to the heroinne. Ingenious, I say. :) I won't give anything away, but a girl beating at a dragon with a broom is enough to make you fall off the couch from laughter. :) And, of course, this book (and the rest of her novels that follow) are full of humor and laughter. Be prepared to laugh with her characters. They are charming and a lot of fun to read.
