Book Description

'Truth is stranger than fiction', these words are an axiom on which a great many things may pivot. For Raven Sinclair these words have long since become a credo, a principle philosophy by which he has lived much of his life. As a creator of fiction, it might seem to some that these words would fade when faced with the realities he creates in his novels. But the Truth of his own reality is in fact stranger than the fiction he creates. Gifted with more than five senses, an outcast by choice, and someone compelled by a driving force he does not understand, Raven's truth is about to become a great deal more like the fiction he has created.

A single decision leads to events he could never have predicted and shoves him into motion down a path that he has unknowingly been following even before he was born. And it leads him to the last thing he could have expected, the long awaited love of his life. He finds her in the very last place he might have thought to look, as part of a government conspiracy to capture and control people just like him. All too soon he must confront a government that wants nothing more than to make him a toy soldier, a past he knew nothing about, a reality far bigger than he could ever imagine, and forces that will alter him and the way he looks at the world around him forever.

And even though for a time his changed life becomes quiet once more the forces of destiny are still guiding him along a path that leads right into the darkness. An ancient evil has been stirred up from the forgotten worlds and cosmic dust to strike at the very heart of his world, and it is not in his destined path to run from it.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

This book is one of my oldest, it has been written and re-written more than a dozen times and in a dozen ways.  And I will be the first one to tell anyone who happens upon it that it is far from my best effort.  Nearly two decades and more edits than my brain will allow me to remember, and the book still isn't right.  If it wasn't the all important introduction to a vast world and slew of favorite characters I might well have passed it over to let the second book stand in the spotlight alone.  However it's not a bad book, it is simply one of those works I can not ever be happy with.  But then again I am a perfectionist and likely will never completely happy with some things.  ^^
Still despite my misgivings, I think this book is a steal at the fractional costs I am willing to charge for it.  I can only hope that my readers will forgive me the many things that are still far from perfect and enjoy this work enough to pay the extortionate prices I charge for my much better books.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good start March 24, 2012
By Tony
Format:Kindle Edition
Once Upon Another World is a very fun and fast-paced read, but I think it could better be described as the beginning to one helluva crazy series (based on the first two novels).

This book seems to have a bit of everything in it at times. I was surprised at how well the amalgamation held together, actually. There are some very cool twists in this novel. At times it feels like the story takes a 90 degree turn every time you think you know what's happening. I like that. It kept the story fresh and interesting. I've read the first 3 books in this series and each book has been better than the last!

The novel isn't perfect and I don't think it is nearly as polished as the second in the series, but I did find it very enjoyable to read and highly entertaining. The structure of the novel is pretty unique, as well. It doesn't follow the normal intro-buildup-climax-end structure, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

If you are one of those people that gets pulled out of the story every single time you encounter a grammar mistake, this book probably isn't for you, but if you are able to read past them you will find a lot to like.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slow Start but then Could Not Put it Down! July 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
In the very beginning of this book I was uncertain that I would complete it and almost stopped reading it altogether. I'm glad that I continued on; I first became intrigued when Raven was asked to begin his 'investigation.' It was at that time I realized there was something special about this book. From that point on, the book flowed seemlessly, excepting a few typo's which in the long run did not detract from the plot, the flow and the ability to believe in the possibility of the story. I read the entire book over the weekend in two sittings. This was a very well thought out and delivered work.

5.0 out of 5 stars There are a lot of errors. June 3, 2012

The author needs editors.

Aside from the insane amount of errors, spelling, grammar, and ambiguous wording I enjoyed the story. It felt like it was almost a mash of several shorter stories.

It was almost to long the book could have been ended several times but in the end the length left me satisfied with the world and the book that was left. I am looking at buying the next book but only just because.

If the author had felt comfortable enough to give this to a good editor and let them rip it apart until they had a neatly packaged nearly error free version i'd have given it 5 stars. even with the errors i was tempted to go for 4 but it needs work enough that 3 is what it is left with.

I'm changing my review i'm adding a star just cause i feel like it..

i think i'll add one more star just because its free.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome series of mage related books July 6, 2012

Pertaining to all and then about book five of the series.
I love this series.

I enjoyed the MageWorld series of Debra Doyle and James D. MacDonald; so it's easy to see, with all the magic creatures and magic land with magic crystals and magen objects, that I might really enjoy this book because it's peopled with characters that I found to be much more interesting than those in the above mentioned series. I also have mentioned my love for both the Amber Universe of Roger Zelazny and the World of Tier Universe of Philip Jose Farmer, so its just as easy to connect these books because they are peopled with characters that all start out the same way, in a normal life on a normal earth like planet only to find that they are something more than normal and to discover they not only have a history in the strange new land, but they have family there.

One wide difference is that in the Tier and Amber universe the family were almost as deadly to each other as they were to anyone else, and though that might hold true in theory with the Salak'patan series, there is less deadly squabbling among the family members than the Tier and Amber families, or at least I should qualify that it seems that way to me. There is still squabbling.

Monorth the (most) main character (there are too many outstanding characters in this book to name them all) of this series starts in humble beginnings on an earth that looks much like the one we have here. Just as with the Tier and Amber series the hero starts with another name, Raven Sinclair, but unlike those series this might be considered his real name and the name of Monorth is a special name he takes as his public identity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Story January 14, 2014

I don't agree with the author...I enjoyed reading it despite the attempt to convince me otherwise. The main character is larger than life and is at the center of plenty of action, romance, and intrigue.

4.0 out of 5 stars Once Upon Another World October 15, 2013

Good start to what will definitely be a great series. Many spelling & grammar errors but that is to be expected of 'self publishing'. Still a great read! Pity that the rest of the series is not available via Amazon :-(

3.0 out of 5 stars Good plot but..........
It has a good plot, but is very badly written. Spelling mistakes are the least of the problems, the grammar is really awful, and the writer over engineers his narrative constantly. Read more
