5.0 out of 5 stars Evil Satanic Garbage
This CD is complete Garbage. These guys are just a bunch of untalented devil worshiping atheists. It's just a bunch of loud noise and grunting. Don't buy this CD or else you'll go to hell. If you listen to this junk then you're responsible for the death and crucifixion of my lord and savior

No, I'm just messing with you. This CD is awesome. Go ahead and buy it;...

3.0 out of 5 stars Different Sound - Believe it or not
Gotta say - this is probably the least fave of the deicide albums. I have heard great things said about it and it really depends on what style you like. For example, if you like the earlier stuff and aren't one for change than this album will strike you as different...There's less of the machine gun like drum onslaught in the background - so if you love the good old death...

4.0 out of 5 stars Introduction To Deicide and the CD's Review, June 7, 2006
First a small intro about the band. Deicide is a band that is highly satanic. The band is probably one of the most satanic band you'll see as every song they make is about satanism. They claim satan is their master and so on. To many people the band members are just sick people (as shown by a person ripping off a lizard's tail in a special edition CD). The band started off with two albums Deicide then Legion and both were good (for Deicide's standings). Then came thieir next 4 albums. The first two of these (including Once Upon the Cross and Serpent blah blah blah) was a very noticeable step down from their first two. their last two was just horrible and a poor excuse for death metal. They broke off of their label, got a new label, and then made an album called .. God what was it called umm... Scars Of The Crucifixation ( I spelled Crucifixation wrong I am sure). The album was one of their best yet and there was a noteable difference with the songs on that album which is highly different for Deicide. Right now they are working on their Stench Of Redemption album which will come out on the last day of August.

This band is considered to be average in the death metal world. I personally have to agree. Deicide's Once Upon The Cross is a very average album. It's really simple. All of the songs almost sound the same all the way. There's only a slight change on every song. Although despite this this is a good album to listen to as a whole. I usually listen to it once a month and throughly enjoy it. It is still worth the time to get it. It is not bad at all by any means.

Track Listing:

1. Unce Upon The Cross: Great way to open up a CD. Get used to the sound cause that's what the entire album sounds like. 9/10

2. Christ Denied: Nothing new to speak of here but it's good. 9/10

3. When Satan Rules His World: Only thing that tells this song apart is the When Satan Rules His World part of the song 8/10

4. Kill The Christian: Heavy ending here. 8/10

5. Trick Or Betrayed: Great song with some of the best lyrics the band has written. 10/10

6. Children Of The Underworld: Pale song 5/10

7. Behind The Light Thou Shall Rise: Longest instrumental on the CD but nothing special until it comes to the instrumental. 7/10

8. To Be Dead: Sounds a lot like the last song but the last song is better. 8/10

9 Confessional Rape: The drumming and guitars are awesome on here. Great way to close the CD and my favorite off this album. 10/10

There is better CDs believe it or not from this band. This is a good place to start though since a lot of times people who listen to the older stuff and likes it doesn't like the new stuff as much.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good Deicide album., December 1, 2003

With better production, fast paced songs, and a whole new batch of Christian onslaughts, Once Upon the Cross proves to be a good Deicide album. My only real complaint is how boring this album can get after listening to it far too much.

Songs to check out: Once Upon the Cross, When Satan Rules This World, Kill The Christian, Trick or Betrayed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic Death Metal Album, October 20, 2001
By
Robert Stotzky (Gothenburg, Sweden) - See all my reviews
This was the album that made me start listening to Deicide. If you have to ask "Why" after listening to it, don't. You just won't get it. This album is a work of sheer brilliance. The songs are catchy as hell while still being completely brutal. The production is good, making Benton's vovals very audible. The lyrics are as blasphemous as ever - not that blasphemous lyrics is a must - all making this a true death metal classic.

I cant believe how aggressive and heavy this album is.The guitar work is really good and bentons vocals are very heavy. The detuned guitars make this release unforgetable and the production is also good.Deicide fans should already own this because this is one of their best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasently mellow, relaxing..., February 16, 1999

Wow, this album is such a change of pace for Deicide. It's laden with pianos and violins left and right. The music has a melodic almost Beetles feel to it. I must say the picture on the inside sleeve of Glenn Benton stopping traffic to help the old lady across the street is truly touching. If you actually believe anything in this review so far then chances are you have done way too many drugs and should check into rehab tomorrow. The third (or fourth depending on how you look at it) release from Deicide brings more of the same style of music that Deicide fans love. They have not slowed down, mellowed out, converted or anything of that sort. Check out the track "Trick or Betrayed" for some very enjoyable guitar solos, and that's coming from some one who doesn't care for most solos. As always fans of extreme death metal will love this.

If You like Your music VERY DARK and EXTRA HEAVY then...DEICIDE has got an album for YOU! DEICIDE's "One Upon The Cross" is an extra helping of Heavy with not only very outstanding musicianship but an excellent production too!-(thanks to Scott Burns). The overall album from front to back is REALLY good with some very standout songs. The vocals are simply angry beyond all reason and add so much to the atmosphere this album projects. The guitar playing is also really impressive-(especially the rhythms!).The Bass player does ALOT of really great "fills" and does a fantastic job keeping up with the drummer. The Drums on this album are absolutely furious with alot of nice timing changes. If I had to describe the sound DEICIDE has on this album I would say it sounds like a cross between: SLAYER/old SEPULTURA and CANNIBAL CORPSE-(which is GREAT!)Some of the songs that REALLY standout on this album are: track #1)"Once Upon The Cross", track #2)"Christ Denied", track #3)"When Satan Rules His World", and track #9)"Confessional Rape"-(EXCELLENT Rhythms!!)If your a Fan of Thrash,Death,or Black Metal then I HIGHLY recommend DEICIDE's "Once Upon The Cross" if Your a NEW Fan of this band and are not sure which of thier albums to purchase,THIS is a really great place to start.I also Highly recommend You checking out some of DEICIDE's other terrific releases which include: "DEICIDE"(self-titled),"LEGION",and "SERPENTS OF THE LIGHT". I hope My review was helpful to You, please check out My other reviews on more great Thrash,Death, and Black Metal bands!!LONG LIVE DEICIDE!!and LONG LIVE METAL!!

4.0 out of 5 stars To: Mr. Noel Kelly "A Christian", April 26, 2006
Thanks for your concern, but keep in mind that alot of people that happen to like Deicide and Slayer aren't satanists,....heck I'm catholic. So, thanks for the concern, but really you are a bit misguided. 1st of all Death is in no way Satanic so look at the lyrics if you must. I listen to decide because I like listening to the music,...I don't actually take the lyrics seriously. I think that Glen Benton is a total *****ed up person but he has a unique layered vocal style mixed with talanted musicians just playing great music. Also, the church isn't perfect either and alot of people tend to get pissed off. The church is very corrupt and I as a christian view God in my own way. As, along as you don't take the lyrics seriously you should be fine. Now, will you stop generalizing about death/thrash metal too, only a small faction of death/thrash metal bands are actually satanic. Overall, the ablum is pretty good..nowhere near their best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kill The Christian, September 22, 2007

I love this album. Glen Benton, Decicide's frontman, is a very smart man. They had him on a program speaking about god and the devil and I was very amazed about how well he answered questions. Then again, mostly every metal artist has something to say but no cares. They think they just make songs about satan and killing people. I hate Christians and ive known a few in my life. They are very hypocritical and annoying to put it in a few kind words. Benton makes song about how he hates Christians and wants to kill them. Thank you Glen! I hate Christians! KILL THE CHRISTIANS!!!! KILL THE CHRISTIANS!!!!!! KILL THE CHRISTIANS..DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
