By A Customer
This review is from: Once Blue (Audio CD)
Just want you to know that the 'Once Blue' recording was just re-released (Sept. 2003) on EMI/Toshiba in Japan. There are 9 bonus tracks of songs that were intended for the second recording added to the CD (bringing the total number of tracks to 21). Currently, it's difficult to find in the states, but you will be able to purchase it from either rebeccamartin.com or jesseharrismusic.com Please visit. We're excited for everyone to hear it of course.

Still on my CD player after all these years,

I picked up a copy of Once Blue's album after catching them as the opening act for The Beautiful South at the old 9:30 Club in DC. It was the fall of 1995. Over six years later, I still think this was one of the best duos to come out of the NY pop scene in the 90s. The songs are catchy, intelligent, and have a very unique style. The sound quality is excellent. Too bad the duo broke up before reaching any sort of media attention. Rebecca Martin, the singer, is still out there, recording strong solo albums that display her amazing, unique voice. Jesse Harris plays on Norah Jones' new album, and wrote a couple of songs for it. For those of you missing Once Blue, pick up Norah's CD and listen to the first track ("Don't Know Why") or catch the video on MTV. The similarity to Once Blue is eerie.

Actually it's lucky this CD doesn't just exist in my mind. I got one of the songs in my head and it took me over two hours to remember which CD it was off of. It's hard to imagine such a great group just put out one CD. Reminds me of October Project. Both beautiful musical groups that broke up before their time. There are some wonderful tunes on this CD. You know it's a great CD when you don't skip a single song. This is a great CD. I didn't skip nary a one.

Dreamy Magic,

I was lucky enough to see Once Blue in 1995 when they opened for Lisa Loeb. Rebecca Martin sang with her eyes closed most of the time and when she did open them, she had this sleepy dreamy look. The mood created by this CD is staying in bed on a Sunday morning. I like "Save Me", "I Haven't Been Me", and I love "Stardust & Snow" and "Where To Now". The rest of it is great, too. Not a bad track on here. Jesse Haris went on to success with Norah Jones, it's baffling that this treasure is out of print. So buy this CD, relax and sleep late. It's worth it.

Worth buying even just for one song,

"Don't Eat Your Heart Out" is one of my all-time favorite songs; it truly is a shame this duo didn't produce more material. The cd is worth tracking down just for this song--a wistful ode to the forgiveness of our pasts we all grant each other just to survive old pain and begin anew.

This album will make your collection complete, effete, and packed with vitamins & essential nutrients. The music just rolls off the tongue and makes you feel warm, comfortable, and ever so slightly excited about life in general. An Ella Fitzgerald for the 21st century, Once Blue puts the Mascarpone on your mince pie.

Timeless, wonderful,
This review is from: Once Blue (Audio CD)
Back in college, I received this album as a special of the month from a cd-membership club. Not wanting to go through the trouble of returning it, I popped it into my stereo and was instantly transfixed. Once Blue possessed such a unique, jazzy-folksy feel that was far superior to the post-grunge pop flooding the airwaves then (and even now). Rebecca Martin's vocals and Jesse Harris's guitar were a perfect fit. Seven years later, it's still one of my favorite cds.Once Blue has some awesome songs, including "Save Me," "I Haven't Been Me," "Where To Now?" and the whimsical "Stardust and Snow." The most powerful, in my opinion, is the simple ballad "Amateur." This is one of the few songs where Jesse shares vocals with Rebecca, and it is beautifully, honestly sung. This cd is out of print but it's worth hunting down. It's a shame Once Blue broke up, because this duo had such great potential. Jesse's recent Grammy win with Norah Jones speaks volumes on what might have been.

Where are you once blue fans?,

I purchased this CD when I was in about 4th grade (CD's were just coming out then..) I loved it then, and now, 12+ years later, still love it. I have searched and searched for another "once blue" fan, but have yet to meet one in person. It was great to read these reviews, and know that I am not the only one who finds this CD amazingly good.

From the first song on this 12 tune set I was hooked. This really sounds to me like a cross between Rickie Lee Jones, Jewel, and Norah Jones - with a hint of Abra Moore mixed in. This is really worth buying if you like any of these artists.

Drawn in this direction by my interest in Jesse Harris' music, thanks to Amazon reviewers I found this. It's hard to stop listening. Rebecca's voice is soulful and the tunes have the Jesse Harris touch. The musicians create a beautiful aural picture. Too bad this is out of print!
