I was quite surprised with Tanya Anne Crosby's novella, "Once Upon a Highland Legend" because it contained all the elements I've come to expect in her novels - strong characters, conflict, humor, and of course those love scenes (steamy, but not TOO steamy!). The heroine, Annie, is a modern-day girl with a scientific mind and a deep fascination with the legend of the Stone of Destiny. Missing her deceased parents terribly and then realizing that her relationship with her fiance is less than ideal, she travels to Scotland to search for the Stone of Destiny. While hiking in the Cairngorms she falls asleep and wakes up in medieval Scotland! Not usually a fan of time travel stories, I have to say that Ms. Crosby did it right! From the heroine's initial disbelief to her gradual acceptance of where she was, the story grew into a delightful interaction of the characters and their manner of coping with the unusual situation.

At the heart of the story is the stone that Annie receives in a shop when she first arrives in Scotland. She has it with her when she falls asleep while on her hike, so it travels back in time with her. Being scientifically minded, it is difficult for her to figure out the meaning of the stone's appearance when it glows with various colors, but she comes to believe the shopkeeper's advice that the stone can show truth and lies.

The hero is a Pict and is a strong character with equally strong opinions. What Annie doesn't realize at first is that he can also see the colors in the stone and is also trying to figure out what they mean. This adds to their mutual mistrust and results in a humorous dialogue between the two characters as they attempt to discover what each other is feeling.

What an amazing fun novella "Once Upon a Highland Legend”, written by Tanya Anne Crosby, was to read. Some scenes are so funny because of the time period difference that I laughed out loud, like the one when Callum meets Annie for the first time, looking at her with her red J-string, so cute! And her modern comments and his, in his Scottish burr, were to die for! It’s a fantastic short time travel novella about the bold, stubborn and independent young lady Annie Ross. A short story in the Guardians of the Stone series! Annie is an American, her father was Scot and her mother American. She always had been fascinated by the Stone of Destiny, the famous stone a sign of the freedom of Scotland. She became so obsessed, that while researching, she fell asleep; time travelled in the past in ancient Scotland and woke up in front of a sexy highlander Callum Mac Finn, who was a man without a home and a leader of his clan. You have to follow their journey, you won’t be disappointed. Was there fae magic in the air? Will Annie be the next Guardian of the Stone? Was this a coincidence that her wish came true? Will she fall for Callum? If you want to giggle and enjoy a short Scottish novella, then this book is for you. Looking forward to Tanya Anne Crosby’s next book in her series Guardians of the Stone.

"Once Upon a Highland Legend" by Tanya Anne Crosby which is a fabulous time travel story.

The main characters in this story is about Annie Ross a lonely American girl who like her beloved father was obsessed with rocks and their origins as the scientist in her as when she comes across very special rocks that is given to her by a local keeper in Scotland that changes colors.

Of course the scientist in her wanted to figure out how it exactly works, her obsession had been to find the real Stone of Destiny what she doesn't expect is to fall asleep in 2014 and wake up in The Cairngorns, 878 and the first man she meets Callum Mac Finn is a leader of a clan in charge of protesting the Stone of Destiny and from there this woman's destiny does seem to spiral out of control.

As Annie keeps trying to figure to get back to her time even though she has fallen in love with this man she know she doesn't belong in this time. Will she break this Picts heart and return or maybe she is home after all. You will have to read to find out as it an amazing story yet really sweet and wonderful story. I adored this story!

Present day and The Cairngorms, 878

Annie meets an old woman in a store who has given her an old stone said to bring the holder of the stone to their fate. She hikes off into the mountains and finds herself coming awake, after evidently nodding off, to find herself smack dab in another time. Callum comes upon her and takes her hostage until he can find out what she knows about the Stone of Scone. Will she stay or try to return to her own time? Tanya never fails to bring warmth to my heart with her writing. Her characters always leave me wishing I were there with them along the way. Follow Annie, Callum, and Biera as they find their truths in the stone with it's many colors.

The story line is an easy one to fall in love with! Is it not any history buff's fantasy to time travel and fall in love? Super entertaining, very hard to put down.. It's a quick read and sets you up very nicely for the rest of the books.. Of course, I read this one last which was pretty cool because I already had an understanding of what was going on. I think I'll read the entire series again. It's that good.
