5.0 out of 5 stars One of her best stories!
This has been one of my favorite Danielle Steel books for a long time. I really enjoy her early works the best, and the characters seem to be more realistic, though their struggles are heartwrenching and devastating. This one is no exception. It's hard enough to lose a spouse or a child, but to lose both... then have to raise a handicapped child that will never meet...

3.0 out of 5 stars A little hard to follow...
Usually I hate the movie adaptions of Ms. Steel's novels because they always change a lot of things. But in this case, I didn't mind at all. I think the movie version of this book, starring Lindsay Wagner and Barry Bostwick is far superior to the novel. I thought Justin was scum and you'll hate him even more in the movie! It's on Lifetime every once in a while, or on...

This has been one of my favorite Danielle Steel books for a long time. I really enjoy her early works the best, and the characters seem to be more realistic, though their struggles are heartwrenching and devastating. This one is no exception. It's hard enough to lose a spouse or a child, but to lose both... then have to raise a handicapped child that will never meet his father or sister... and to do this all alone... well, all I can say is Danielle Steel takes real life tragedies, and pushes them to find out how much her characters can take... then pushes them a little more. This one will have you crying for the devastating loss, then crying for the heartwarming mother-son relationship. There is so much more to this story, and anyone that has ever read Danielle Steel will know that her stories take you on a roller coaster ride, and make you walk away a different person than the one you were before.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now this is how Danielle Steel used to write..., April 13, 2000
By A Customer
This was the first book I read by Danielle Steel and I fell in love with it. It was a looong time ago (1985 or 86, I believe) but I still remember it well. The characters (especially Daphne and her son) were realistic and fascinating. Daphne seemed like the writer type--very shy, quiet, and likes her privacy. I also liked hearing (no pun intended) about the school for the deaf and how Daphne and her son learned sign language. For those of you who've read only her 1990's books, you have got to read this one. I think then you'll understand how she became a bestselling author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life is Hard Sometimes, July 20, 2002
By
"wildwoodldy" (Village Mills, TX United States) - See all my reviews
Daphne Fields has just had a terrible accident and is in intensive care. Her loyal friend and secretary is at her side while she is telling the story of Daphne's life. Daphne has had several things happen to her that have been very sad but has always been able to overcome the hurt and go on with her life. She deserves the best life has to offer but somehow she looses the person she loves each time she finds that "once in a lifetime" relationship.

The ending to the story is wonderful. I won't spoil it for those who may not have read the 1982 publication by D. Steel.I love her older books more than I do the newer ones. Great love story!

5.0 out of 5 stars What strength!, April 25, 2002
It amazes me at the strength DS characters have!! I doubt I could face what they do & live to tell. This is such a great story, gives you inspiration. You will cheer for this woman and wish her happiness...you will be with her on a roller coaster ride. You'll regret when it has to end.

It is a very interesting book about a courageous woman. I admire, how she fought with her fate. Once I even felt that I am Daphne and everything in this book happens to me. It was really exciting.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Danielle Steel novel ever!, May 17, 2007
By
This is my most favorite DS novel of all time. In fact, my copy of this book has been read and reread so much that the back cover fell off. During some of the most difficult moments of my own life, I've always had this book with me.

Daphne Fields is a young widow, raising her young son, a woman truly alone in the world. This is a story about love and loss and heartbreak, and finding the strength to go on living. I also highly recommend the TV-movie (available on DVD) with Lindsay Wagner, and the actor who plays Justin Wakefield looks and acts exactly like you'd imagined him when reading the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Once in a Lifetime, March 4, 2007
This review is from: Once in a Lifetime (Paperback)
Danielle Steel is indeed a GENIUS! Once in a Lifetime is a well-crafted and brilliantly written novel! I was in tears by the end of chapter 3, and cried throughout the entirety of the novel. The novel became slow moving towards the last few chapters, but D.Steel picked up speed again and closed the novel perfectly. This novel is a must read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Touching, April 10, 2000
By A Customer
This was my second book and it was a touching love story. It starts off at the present when Daphne gets caught in an accident. She goes back to the time when she first meets Jeff and how she lost him and how she gave up. Then John comes along and it tells how how she also lost him in the same tragic way she lost Jeff. Then it moves along after that and how she finally gave up on love then it goes back to the morning when she finally woke up from the accident. I can say that it has a pretty sweet ending. I can't tell you all, I'll spoil the suprise! note: This is such a good book! Try it and you won't be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Touching Story, May 25, 2010
This was a very touching story. The characters in the story kept it very interesting. It was very sad Daphne a writer gets hit by a vehicle on Christmas Eve. She ends up in the hospital, and the story begins. She lost her first husband and her daughter, and was pregnant with her son. I don't want to give away the story.

Danielle Steel is a great novelist. This is a great reminder for us in real life to always appreciate what we have each day. There are no quarantees in life. we never know when our time is near. No one can predict that part of our lives. So enjoy what we have each and every day,and be thankful what the good lord has put in front of you. This is a very good book you won't want to put it down.
